Hufflepuffs are know in the “Harry Potter” universe as hard-working, loyal, and unafraid of toil. However, there are a lot of different personalities in each Hogwarts house. Here are ten TV characters you may be surprised are Hufflepuffs. To be fair, we’re not an official sorting hat. So of course, the Hogwarts houses of these characters are up for debate. That being said, let’s get into it!
1. Killian Jones/Captain Hook – “Once Upon a Time”
Hook becomes a pirate because he feels betrayed by the King and becomes vengeful when Rumpelstiltskin kills Milah. But when he meets Emma, we see him fall in love and become a hero. He’s dedicated to helping Storybrooke and is patient when Emma puts up her walls. Killian also fights for what he wants, as Hufflepuffs are unafraid of toil.
2. Allison Hargreeves – “The Umbrella Academy”
Allison uses her rumor power to become a successful actress, which may seem like something a Slytherin would do. However, she’s one of the only siblings who accepts Vanya and looks out for her. In season two, her Hufflepuff side comes to the forefront. She is an activist, fighting against racism in the 60s. Allison wholeheartedly believes in equal rights, and Hufflepuff is the most inclusive house.
3. Dean Winchester – “Supernatural”
This wayward son may seem like a Gryffindor, as he is brave in his fight against the supernatural, but he’s actually a Hufflepuff. Dean doesn’t do his job for glory. Instead, he does it for the people he cares about and a desire to make the world a safer place. Furthermore, Dean also is a Hufflepuff because of his love of food, especially pie. If he went to Hogwarts, he’d be happy to know his common room is next to the kitchen.
4. Sgt. Terry Jeffords – “Brooklyn 99”
While Terry may at first glance appear as a Gryffindor for his strength, he’s genuinely a Hufflepuff. He became a detective because he wants a just world. Terry also loves his daughters and family, making him less reckless than his Gryffindor co-workers. Plus, he defies toxic masculinity by playing the flute, discussing his love for the farmers market, and by being very protective over his friends at the 99.
5. Chandler Bing – “Friends”
Could Chandler BE any more of a Hufflepuff? He’s known for his sarcasm and desperation for love, but he’s also kind and loyal. Chandler always supports Joey financially and is devoted to Monica. Plus, Joey, the sweet and food-loving roommate, is also a Hufflepuff. These two best friends need to be in the same Hogwarts house!
6. Stevie Budd – “Schitt’s Creek”
Stevie has a rough exterior, but she’s a Hufflepuff. She’s hardworking, as she maintains the family motel. Additionally, Stevie has a hard time believing in herself, which is a struggle that many Hufflepuffs have. When she’s nervous about performing in the musical, Moira tells Stevie that she admires her more than anyone else in the town. She ends up stealing the show with her performance.
7. Merlin – “Merlin” on BBC
While Merlin is a Slytherin in the Harry Potter universe, and his study of magic often makes people think he’s a Ravenclaw, I believe the BBC version of Merlin is a Hufflepuff. He’s hard-working in his job as a servant. Merlin also uses his magic to help Arthur. Merlin’s a true friend and wants a just kingdom, which he believes Arthur will one day create.
8. Steve Harrington – “Stranger Things”
I thought Steve Harrington was a stereotypical jerk boyfriend in season one. But in season two, he proves that he’s a sweet person and a damn good babysitter. He helps the younger kids stay out of trouble, which is not an easy task. Steve’s Hufflepuff nature is most evident in his friendship with Dustin, giving him hair tips and going on wild hijinks together.
9. Annie Edison – “Community”
Annie Edison may strike people as a Ravenclaw for her studiousness. However, Annie’s enthusiastic personality, loyalty to her friends, optimism, and determination to save Greendale makes her a Hufflepuff. Undoubtedly, she’d be able to win the Triwizard Tournament.
10. Luke Danes – “Gilmore Girls”
Luke may be scruffy and grumpy, but he’s a Hufflepuff through and through. He belongs to this Hogwarts house because he’s a great cook and cares deeply for people. Luke is there whenever people need him, to bring a bag of ice or to give someone a shoulder to cry on. Lorelei says it best; once Luke Danes is in your life, he is in your life forever.
Some Hufflepuffs are easy to spot, but these one’s may be harder to see at first glance. Regardless, I think they all belong to the house of the badger.
