2013 Trends… So far.
2012 was the hottest year on record in the United States and the 2012 trends adhered to that too. It was the year of opulence, color, embellishment, and sometimes, just pure craziness. So far, bearing in mind that New York, Milan, Paris and London Fashion Weeks have yet to begin, the spring 2013 trends look like a complete turnaround from the previous year. 2013 is looking like the year of minimalist chic – but the year has only just begun!
A trend that was seen on the runways for the spring 2013 collections was black and white prints and black and white contrasts which is great news because they look great on everyone, they are easy to pull off and it means you can experiment more with colorful accessories and makeup.
Another trend that is cropping up that is for the more daring fashionista is sheer clothing. Just because it’s sheer doesn’t mean you have to show everything but having a sheer neckline with a basic black dress can add a little touch of femininity. With this trend it’s all about risk. The more daring can opt for more sheerness, while the shy can opt for a touch here and there.
A really great trend that may be a little harder to carry off well is ruffles. This trend is huge right now (see Givenchy spring 2013 RTW collection – ruffles everywhere)! It can look so beautiful when done right but it definitely takes more effort to make sure the look you are going for is right on target. The placement and amount of ruffles is really key here; too many can make you look extremely ostentatious and in some cases, silly, and bad placement can drown you and add the illusion of weight where you would not want it. Do it right and it is perfection!
Trends we hope to see!
Polka dots! We’re hoping the black and white contrast trend will lead to a polka dot explosion… They are adorable! There is nothing better than adding a little pop of cuteness to your life with some polka dots!
Mint – we’re hoping the mint trend stays around for longer because it would look great with those polka dots.
Designers to look out for this year (in our opinion…)
Alexander McQueen – Sarah Burton and brand McQueen have had a phenonmenal couple of years (Royal wedding, anyone?) and we’re excited to see what the mastermind behind that dress has up her sleeve this season.
Bottega Veneta – their RTW collection was amazing… need we say more? This picture speaks for itself – perfection!
Balenciaga – their spring 2013 collection was to die for! So minimalist chic – we’re excited! Check out this beautiful dress!
