Are you as obsessed with wine as I am? Kansas City has one of the richest grape growing and wine making histories in the U.S. With more than 100 local wineries and vineyards in the metro area, Kansas City is the perfect go-to location for wine down time. Here are my top 5 favorite wineries in the Kansas City Area:
1. KC Wine Co.
New to the Kansas City winery scene and located in Olathe, KC Wine Co. offers a youthful twist to a classic winery. Started by Kirk and Julie Berggren and their daughter, Taylor, the unique wooden wine barrel appearance of the winery was created out of a refurbished Quonset hut. Their winemaker, Austin Wahaus, produces a variety of types of wines as well as ciders. In addition to the winery itself, KC Wine Co. also offers various events throughout the year including a adult coloring activity night, a wine and cheese pairing and a slushie party featuring their famous wine slushies.

2. Amigoni Urban Winery
Located in downtown Kansas City near the Crossroads and Power and Light District, this winery has a modern feel with a classic winery touch. Established in 2000, this winery began by the Amigoni family growing vinifera grapes has grown to what it is today. Their award-winning red wines such as Cinsaut, Cabernet and Viognier make this winery perfect for a fancy girls night out. One of the best parts about the Amigoni winery is their 7 dollar unlimited wine tastings which is located in the historic Daily Drovers Telegram Newspaper building in the Stockyards District of the West Bottoms.

3. Somerset Ridge Winery
This family-owned winery features a tasting room, live music, outdoor seating, art shows, a satellite tasting bar and a ton of other fun activities to do with family or friends on the weekends. Farm-owners and married couple Dennis and Cindy Reynolds started this winery in 1998 in Paola, Kansas simply due to their love of wine. With the picturesque red barn tasting room and fields of vines, this winery is a classic American vineyard.

4. Pirtle Winery
As historic as it gets, Pirtle Winery is located in Weston, Missouri. The winery was created in a charming former Lutheran Evangelical Church built in 1867. In addition to their classic location, the winery is also family-owned, started by Scott and Ross Pirtle in 1978. This winery is also super unique in that they make mead, also known as honey wine, which has been gaining popularity in recent years.

5. Fence Stile Vineyards
Located in the hills and gravel roads of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, this vintage winery was created in 2006 by William and Shriti Plimpton who had a passion for traveling to vineyards around the world. The vineyard features wine tastings, live music, a full kitchen and an outdoor fire pit. The most enchanting parts of this winery are the grape-vine covered buildings and the wine cave where the wine rests in barrels before being transferred to bottles.
