When it comes to makeup products, I tend to be a girl who favors having a small collection of specific items and certain shades in my makeup bag rather than a wide array. For example, I strictly use neutral eye shadows (specifically creams, pinks, and browns), and I am completely lost without my L’Oreal liquid black eyeliner. Don’t get me wrong, I love the art of makeup and all of the beautifully creative things individuals and artists are doing in the field, but I personally use it fairly conservatively. What can I say? I’m a sucker for consistency? Before you get me pegged as a total makeup bore, you should know that I go absolutely crazy for lip products. I am always experimenting with different shades and formulas to perfect my pout. With that being said, I thought I would share the lip products I’ve been loving this month. Here are some of my current favorites!
For anyone who struggles with flakey lips like I do during the winter season, this product is a must! Similar to a body scrub, this lip product gently exfoliates, leaving your lips incredibly soft. An added bonus to this product is that it’s made out of sugar, so after you’re done exfoliating you can lick it right off your lips for a yummy bubblegum tasting treat! I use this scrub daily to prep my lips, ensuring that my lip look of the day will apply smoothly.
I know that EOS is by no means a new brand, but in my passionate pursuit of collecting and trying out lip products I unintentionally turned my back on the moisturizing goodness found in their lip balms. After many years apart, I recently purchased their Visibly Soft Balm in Coconut Milk, and I can’t understand why I ever stopped using their products! This formula is slightly different than their original lip balm, but I am equally as obsessed. As I mentioned before, winter can really wreck my lips but this balm does an amazing job of keeping them hydrated. On top of including this in my morning lip prep routine, I also like to keep one of these balms in my purse to use whenever my lips need some extra loving.
A specific type of lip product that I am always on the look out for is some type of long-lasting red. In my experience, there are many formulas and brands that claim that their lip product will last, but their claims are more often than not empty promises. Rimmel’s Provocalips is advertised as a 16-hour formula, and I kid you not, I put it to the test, and it really works! As featured above, I have been absolutely loving their bright red shade, “Kiss Me You Fool.” Although this is not a standard lipstick, this long-lasting lip product finishes as if it is. Also it comes as a duo, so there is one side for the color itself and the second is a clear top coat that locks the formula in and moisturizes. With Valentine’s Day approaching this kiss-proof formula is a necessity! Even if red isn’t your shade, there are 14 other shades to choose from.
If you are looking for an everyday lip gloss that will add just a touch of color, Buxom’s Full-On Lip Polishes are an excellent choice! The reason I love these glosses so much is because not only do they provide a beautiful shine, but they also act as a lip-plumper. When you apply these glosses, there is a lovely tingly feeling that follows. Products that are marketed as lip-plumpers can often be very aggressive and at times actually be painful, but Buxom provides a different experience. Also, being the glitter fanatic that I am, these glosses all provide a subtle glimmer which is gorgeous. I definitely would suggest taking swatches of the glosses before purchasing because the colors appear a lot more vivd inside the tube than they do on the lips.
Outside of a classic red, fuchsia and plums are my favorite lip colors. I recently purchased this MAC Lipstick in Flat Out Fabulous, and I have been loving it. Since I tend to consistently do my eye makeup very neutral, this lipstick provides a fun, funky brightness to my whole look. Also, an added bonus, it has a lovely matte finish that looks very polished. I cannot tell you how many compliments I have had this month when I wear this lipstick. For those of you who may have reserved tastes, I really encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and try an electric color like this one. It may surprise you just how confident it makes you feel owning a bold look!
