If your quarantine experience has been anything like mine, you probably feel like your life has become a simulation similar to any Black Mirror episode. Last week, I compiled the best 5 episodes of the series for your viewing pleasure. If you’re hungry for more fictional dystopia to distract you from our nightmarish reality, here are the 5 best celebrity appearances on Black Mirror.

5. Alex Lawther (Season 3, Episode 2)

Recognize this face? Black Mirror isn’t the only Netflix show that Alex Lawther has appeared on. You may also know him as James from The End of the F***ing World, where he plays the disconcerting main character. In this season 3 episode titled “Shut Up and Dance”, Lawther plays a teenaged boy who discovers that his laptop has been hacked into. In order to keep his secrets safe from exposure, he must carry out orders delivered by text from the anonymous hacker.

4. Daniel Kaluuya (Season 1, Episode 2)

If you’ve seen Jordan Peele’s cinematic masterpiece Get Out, then you definitely know who Daniel Kaluuya is. Released in 2011, Kaluuya stars in one of the first episodes of Black Mirror ever released, entitled “Fifteen Million Merits.” Believe me, this episode is the epitome of dystopia. In a seemingly post-apocalyptic world, most members of society must ride exercise bikes to generate power and points. These points function as a source of income for regular citizens. If a citizen is talented, however, they can spend a large sum of points on an audition to become a celebrity. Think America’s Got Talent meets 1984.

3. Letitia Wright (Season 4, Episode 6)

Letitia Wright stars in one of my all-time favorite Black Mirror episodes, titled “Black Museum.” In addition to her leading role in this season 4 favorite, Wright also stars in Black Panther, where she plays super-genius Shuri. It’s fitting that she would be my favorite character in the Marvel record-breaker and have a role in one of my favorite episodes. In fact, she even received an Emmy nomination for her role on the show!

2. Miley Cyrus (Season 5, Episode 3)

Miley Cyrus puts on an iconic performance as Ashley O in this season 5 episode of Black Mirror. Plus, the song she sings on the show is an actual banger. Ashley O is a pop star similar to Miley’s real-life persona. The episode follows a lonely teenage girl who becomes obsessed with her robot Ashley O toy. Consequently, the toy becomes her only friend, aside from her sister. Meanwhile, the real Ashley O’s life begins to unravel as her overbearing manager gets greedy.

1. Topher Grace (Season 5, Episode 2)

Finally, Topher Grace delivers a great performance in the Black Mirror season 5 episode titled “Smithereens.” I must admit, it’s hard for me to separate Grace from his character Eric Forman on That 70’s Show. That being said, I almost didn’t recognize him in this episode. Maybe it’s the beard. Regardless, his surprise cameo near the end of the episode really tied the whole storyline together. Above all else, he really makes his character believable.

This has been the scoop on the 5 best celeb cameos on Black Mirror. Be sure to check out some of our other stuff too!
