6 Ways to Deal with Seasonal Allergies

During the summer months, you want to be able to get outdoors as much as possible, but if you are an allergy sufferer, this can prove to be very difficult. Allergies to pollen amongst other things mean that a trip outside is full of sneezing, itchiness and watering eyes.

There are a range of medical treatments designed to combat these issues and you could even head down to an advanced ENT & allergy center if things become too insufferable. There are also some things that you can do yourself that can make a big difference.

Wash Your Bedsheets on a Weekly Basis

If you find that you are still suffering from your allergies when you climb into bed, you may need to give your bedsheets a wash to get rid of any remaining pollen and other debris. You should make a habit of doing this on a regular basis in hot water – try weekly to start off with but more often if you still find yourself struggling.

Bathe and Wash Hair Before Bedtime

Before you go to bed every night, you should bathe and wash your hair to get rid of anything that has collected your body during the day. And when you get into some fresh sheets as well, this can really make all the difference.

Avoid Drying Clothes Outside

During the summer months, it can be very tempting to want to dry your clothes outdoors but this is where they are likely to gather a lot of pollen and grass. You can check the weather forecast to see whether the count is particularly high, and if it is then these are the days you should certainly avoid hanging up your clothes outdoors.

Wear a Filter Mask When Gardening

During the summertime, it is likely that you will be spending a lot of time outdoors in your garden doing all kinds of different gardening work. And when you are doing jobs like mowing the lawn, this is when your allergies can be at their worst. So, you could consider wearing a filter mask while you are doing any gardening to keep from breathing in any irritating debris.

Keep Your Pets Away From the Bedroom

Your dogs and cats are always spending a lot of time outdoors, so you should keep them away from the bedroom in particular. Also, avoid letting them spend too much time on the furniture as this is also a place where they are likely to deposit pollen and the other things that get caught in their fur.

Clean Damp Areas in Your Home Frequently

Watch out for your bathroom and other damp areas of the home as these can also aggravate your allergies. You should aim to clean these on a regular basis so you are getting rid of any signs of mould and mildew that is building up. When you are removing mould, you should always use a nontoxic cleaning agent.

These are just a few ways that you can defend yourself and your home from the causes of seasonal allergies.
