The 1970s are back! For 2015, fashionistas are wearing midi skirts and cool lace blouses, but are also rocking are 70s-inspired hair. During this past 2015 Spring Fashion Week, designers were inspired by the low-maintenance styles of the 1970s. Channeling the fabulous fashion icons of that time, hair is going back to the Age of Aquarius.


The Shag Hairstyle


Originally seen on Jane Fonda in the film Klute, this hairstyle is known for its universally flattering shape. It is a short hairstyle that is layered at different lengths. What makes this style so flattering, is its full volume at the crown, and soft feathered ends near the face. Many kids from the 90s will recognize this style as “the Rachel” from the television show Friends or Meg Ryan’s chosen hairstyle of the decade. This razor-sheared style has evolved to a pseudo punk, easy to wear haircut. Worn by supermodels Karlie Kloss and Edie Campbell, this style is great for the girl on the go.


The Boho Hair


Nothing says bohemian elegance like long straight, fringed hair. For Spring 2015, many designers styled their models in long straight hair with fringe that reflects the hippie style of the 70s. Recalling the “ladies of the canyon” style of music greats Joni Mitchell and Emmylou Harris, almost everyone will be putting down their curling iron for a straightener. Just remember to use a heat protector, healthy hair is definitely a must.

This style is great for those with textured hair who are looking for a healthy and stylish alternative. Actress Lupita Nyong’o and singer Solange Knowles have helped popularize the style; Ms. Nyong’o combined natural hair with a beautiful Giambattista Valli dress, proving that beauty comes naturally.
