Celebrate Mardi Gras in Sexy Style

Grab your beads, girls: Mardi Gras season is finally here! Even if you’re not heading down to the street parties on New Orleans’ Bourbon St. for drinks and dancing, you can still show your Southern spirit by dressing for the holiday. Every year, the traditional Mardi Gras celebration draws crowds of tourists to the city of New Orleans from around the world. Even when the city was battered by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, New Orleanians were known for throwing the best parties on Fat Tuesday by wearing throw beads, donning decorative masks and festive costumes, singing and dancing in the street; and hosting a spectacular pageantry of floats, bands, and other parade goers. So how can you enjoy the fun in style? Without attending your Mardi Gras party in full-blown masked regalia, how can you have stylized fun with this colorful Southern holiday?

Here is a glamorous, yet budget-friendly outfit to inspire you for your Mardi Gras parties this year:Mardi Gras

When you think of Mardi Gras, you probably imagine raucous parades down Bourbon Street filled with music and floats with strings of colorful throw beads being tossed in the air. The official colors for this holiday are purple, green, and gold; but did you know that they each have a significant meaning associated with them? Purple represents justice, green stands for faith and gold stands for power. To recreate the crazy and colorful vision of this rambunctious holiday, I went for a glamorous look using the main tri-color palette of purple, gold, and green. This purple frock by Modcloth is the perfect jewel-toned shade of amethyst with a girly detailing of the tulle-hemmed underskirt, flattering sweetheart bust and matching sash belt. Don it with a pair of these striking Michael Antonio glittery gold pumps, this teal faux fur stole (on clearance from Victoria’s Secret’s winter collection), and this patent gold clutch to match. For extra flair, I added an array of golden accessories, including these feather-like earrings by H&M and these Robert Rose bangles. Instead of donning a full-on mask, I added this delicate mask charm necklace by Topshop and this vintage-inspired brass alligator ring for a subtle nod to the Louisiana bayous. Don’t forget this glittery teal nail polish Henley Regatta by Butter to bring out the green crystal accents of the alligator’s eyes. You’ll be a belle of the Bayou in no time!
