Check Out These 6 Unique Kansas City Restaurants

Kansas City has a diverse selection of food.  I’m always impressed by the seemingly endless options!  However, even with so many options, things can get stale sometimes.  It can feel like I’m eating the same thing from a different place.  Whenever I’m in a flavor rut, I insist on going to one of these 6 restaurants.  They’ve each mastered their own unique take on their cuisine.  So whether you’re craving Thai or tapas, these 6 restaurants are sure to please!

Boru Ramen Bar

We recently reviewed Boru Ramen Bar after their grand opening, and we had to mention them again!  We just can’t get over them!  Truthfully, when I think of ramen I’m immediately reminded of my college days when I basically ate cup-of-noodles for every meal. Well let me tell you, this is not your dorm room’s ramen.  Boru has elevated the meal, making this restaurant a fun and sophisticated date night or happy hour destination.  Boru took such a simple concept and breathed new life into it and we are loving it!

La Bodega

As soon as you step into La Bodega, you’ll feel as though you were transported to Northern Spain.  With upbeat latin tunes, authentic menu items, and walls as colorful as their flavor palette, La Bodega is a completely unique dining experience.  Designed for sharing, these small plates will encourage socializing amongst friends and allow you to try multiple menu items in one sitting.

I was immediately fascinated with Aep (pronounced “Ape”) after hearing owner, Jakob Polaco’s inspiration for this restaurant.  After spending some time abroad in SouthEast Asia taking cooking classes, watching street vendors cook from their mobile carts, and doing a two week stage in Bangkok, Jakob felt prepared to open his own Thai restaurant.  As a Thai food enthusiast, I was thrilled by the news!  The food balances the authentic sweet, bitter, hot, and sour flavors of traditional Thai food, but Jakob adds his own flare to his dishes, creating an entirely new experience for all diners.

I was skeptical of Artego’s the first time I went to eat there.  Everyone I know spoke so highly of their pizza that I was sure it had to be an exaggeration.  I mean all pizza is good, right?  It can’t be that much better than all the other really good pizzas out there?  Wrong!  This artisanal style pizza has completely changed my perspective on what good pizza is!  The crust is flaky and garlicky with just the right amount of herbs and oil. All the ingredients are fresh and the presentation is impressive!  Stop in for a pie and to enjoy some fun art work.  (The owner doubles as an artist and displays his work around his establishment for patrons to enjoy.)

Rye KC

At first glance, Rye is just a traditional comfort food restaurant in Leawood, KS.  After ordering a  meal and a cocktail, you swill see that it’s far from anything ordinary.  You’re not getting standard American fare, you’re getting a progressive meals, desserts, and cocktails.  Rye’s originality earned them several mentions in local and national publications including: 435, Elle, Bon Appetit, The Kansas City Star, and Tasting Table.

The Melting Pot

The Melting Pot is an experience.  The artisan cheese and rich chocolate are only part of the memories you’ll make here!    Initially, I wasn’t going to include this staple because it’s a franchise, and I wanted to focus on one of a kind restaurants.  It wasn’t until I realized that even with multiple locations, The Melting Pot is a unique concept that I decided to include them.  Every dining experience is a bit different as you create new pairings for a meal that is as unique as you are!   There’s nothing in Kansas City quite like it. This is by far my favorite place to go with my gal pals for dinner.  Sharing chocolate and cheese covered everything and gabbing over delicious food is one of the best ways to catch up with friends!
