Maybe it’s just me but I think that girls need to embrace their curls a lot more. Celebrities like Elle Varner, Leona Lewis, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, Annalynne Mccord, among many others have made it easier for girls to feel more confident with their curls. Put down those flat irons, blow driers and quit the perms; let your natural beauty show. Girls like me, with crazy curly hair tend to battle with our hair in order to “tame” it, or better said- take care of it. I admit, it is easier to handle it while it’s straight, but make an effort to rock your curls to divert harsh damage that you’ll regret . I’ll be sharing with you some tips for the care of your beautiful hair.
-Let’s begin with the wash- curly hair tends to be dry, so shampoo less often during the week. Limit washing your hair to 2-3 times a week.
-Use products geared towards curly hair, Nexxus offers Split End Binding products to nurse your split ends which curly hair is prone to.
-Deep condition your hair once a week and use leave-in conditioner after every wash to keep moisture intact.
-During the tough mission of detangling those curls, avoid narrow toothed combs and brushes. Use wide toothed combs and brushes to avoid breakage and frizz. And don’t forget to comb while your hair is still wet or while you are still in the shower.
-To dry your hair; blot, don’t rub with your towel, rubbing causes frizz. Or just let it naturally dry.
-Use less hair products whenever possible to avoid tough chemicals. Limit your products to leave-in conditioner, mousse, or styling cream.. sometimes a bit of hairspray (I don’t know about you, but I definitely need it). Avoid gels, tough hairsprays and just overall products that make your hair stiff and crunchy or that contain alcohol.
-When it comes to straightening it, we can’t avoid it..I know. Instead of using the flat iron at home, visit a salon and blow dry. It’s less damaging to your hair.
-Limit the times you use heat in your hair to once a month and when you do, use a heat protecting product AND hair serum to avoid having your hair look like a troll doll’s hair.
So remember, better safe than sorry. Care for your curls as if they were your baby, you’ll thank yourself down the road when you are flipping that healthy, shiny hair for everyone to see.
