Design Your Own Sandals {A Fun DIY}

Make those plain and simple sandals from Old Navy fashion worthy by following these simple D.I.Y. designing tricks. You will love your new sandals, and it will cost you less than what you would pay for those super cute sandals from department stores.

For the first design all you need is ribbon and beads, pearls, or seashells (pretty much whatever you want on them). Take the ribbon and wrap it around the straps of the sandals. Wrap it over and under. Basically what you would do with the shoe laces of regular shoes. Take one bead, pearl, or seashell and glue it to the center. Look at the picture below if you need help. Make sure you get beads, pearls or seashells that have holes to put thread through. Take a needle and thread and sew it twice to the ribbon. Do the same with the others. Be sure to show off you newly designed sandals at the beach, amusement park, and when walking the dog. Don’t want your design to be like the one in the picture? Then do your own! Now your design can truly be unique.

Like those floral sandals at the department store, but don’t have enough money to purchase them? Well here is a design that is also really simple. Just use ribbon, and wrap it around the straps like in the picture below. Use E-6000 glue. It can be purchased at Walmart or any craft store. Hot glue will also work well, but E-6000 glue holds a lot better. You can also get it on Amazon for $6. Glue the flowers on with E-6000 glue. Put glue on the center of the bow, and the center of the sandal. Use clothes pins to hold the flower down. It will take about 12 hours to fully dry. You can also add beads to the center of the flowers to make them stand out more.

If you don’t want to deal with ribbon, just add a bow. You can use a bow from a hair accessory and glue it on the sandal, but do NOT use bows with clips. Take off the clip before gluing the bows on. The clip will raise the bow, and it will look silly when wearing the sandals. Glue the bow in the same fashion as before with the flowers. Glue the back of the ribbon and the center of the sandal. Make sure to use clothes pins again, and let it dry for 12 hours before wearing them.

All of these are relatively cheap to make. Sandals from Old Navy cost about $5. Sometimes they are less depending on the sale! Ribbon and beads  are no more than $15 depending on how much you want. You may have some left over to create a new design!

Enjoy your sandals!
