Robin Williams and Christopher Reeve, best known from his role as Superman, met in school at Juilliard in 1973, and remained fast friends. When Reeve was in a paralyzing horse-riding accident in 1995, Williams visited him in the hospital, pretending to be an eccentric Russian proctologist who was going to perform a rectal exam on him. “My old friend had helped me know that somehow I was going to be okay,” Reeve wrote in his autobiography.
