Get the scoop on our favorite fashion moments of 2014. We are breaking down which celebrities are rocking the best fashion moments of 2014.
Moschino Makes Pop Culture Wearable:
Jeremy Scott, creative director of Moschino did big things with the brand this year. He took it to new heights and put an entirely fresh and eccentric spin on pop culture. His designs have been worn by the likes of Paris Hilton, Miley Cyrus, Pharrell, Charli XCX and the list goes on. He’s created designs based on Spongebob, McDonalds and even Hersheys Chocolate, which were all absolutely absurd and they were just absurd enough to capture the attention and adoration of many, he managed to infuse all the looks with the high glam that Moschino loves to project. I think my all time favorite was the Barbie line he created for fashion week. He did a fabulous job of incorporating vintage Barbie with the concept of the modern woman and truly created a runway full of living dolls that brought out the little girl in all of us. If my bank account permitted me, I would probably buy every piece.
Rihanna Becomes the Creative Director of Puma:
Badgal Ri-Ri flew to Germany on December 15th to check out Puma headquarters and hold her first meeting. She will take part-in a multi-year partnership as creative director, in which she will oversee the women’s training line for Puma. According to Women’s Wear Daily and the chief executive of Puma, she is a “perfect ambassador for the brand.” She will create new styles as well as advise on existing styles. This is a favorite fashion moment because it’s a huge move for Puma and for Rihanna and because it will be so exciting to see what the edgy pop star produces. Plus, Puma might just have a fighting chance of giving Nike and Adidas a run for their money.
Heidi Klum Makes a Metamorphosis on Halloween:
Heidi Klum is undoubtedly the Halloween queen, the past years she has always made a statement with a killer costume that put everyone else’s to shame. This year she transformed from Heidi, supermodel and TV personality to Heidi, butterfly extraordinaire. Her costume was a full head to toe suit, that covered every piece of skin on her body. It was vibrant blues, greens, magentas and yellows and then in all their iridescent glory was two massively amazing butterfly wings. She was a sight for sore eyes and that earned her a spot on favorite fashion moments.
Sean Kelly Wins Project Runway and Makes Fringe Fabulous:
For those of you who follow Project Runway Sean Kelly’s win was very exciting. He was great competitor and ingenious and avant-garde in his design concepts, I’m certainly excited to see what he creates from the opportunities he reaped from Project Runway. The main reason this a favorite moment is because he created probably my favorite red carpet dress I’ve seen the ENTIRE year. Just like his final collection it involved a lot of fringe and it was to die for. The ombre blue fringe gown was so irresistible; Heidi herself had to steal it for a red carpet event. It was truly stunning.
Blake Lively Makes Pregnant Women ‘round the World Jealous:
Blake Lively made the cut because she was the most stylish and adorable pregnant women I’ve ever seen. Miraculously she might’ve gained even more fashion fame and glamour while she was pregnant as opposed to while she wasn’t.It wasjust one gorgeous outfit and gown after the next, everywhere she was spotted there was not a hair out of place or a single fashion slip-up. Her pregnancy wardrobe was undeniably glorious.
Victoria Secret Fashion Show ’15:
This is probably a favorite for most women, every year. We get to watch glamazon beauties prance about in high fashion lingerie and angel wings. What’s not to love? Some highlights from this year were musical performances by Hozier and Ed Sheeran in addition to Taylor Swift in a super sexy black lace outfit and Ariana Grande in a whimsical two piece. Then there was my personal favorite moment, Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio strutting the catwalk in heavenly two million dollar Dream Angels Fantasy Bras. Unfortunately you pretty much have to be an Angel to wear one. The bras were made with 16,000 rubies, sapphires and diamonds, and strung with 18 karat gold. All I can say is that I hope those bras have their own body guards.
Kendall Jenner Flourishes as a Model:
This made my favorite list because I remember watching Kendall Jenner on TV when the first Kardashian show came out. She was so young, awkward and silly. Now, she has bloomed into a social media starlet and gained a lot of attention all on her own by transitioning into a drop dead gorgeous super model. This year she wowed, wearing high fashion designs in Paris, New York and Milan Fashion Week. She’s probably become one of my favorite high fashion models and I have a feeling she will go down as being a highly influential model as well. Can’t wait to see what the New Year holds for her.
Oscar De Le Renta Leaves an Eternal Mark on Fashion:
I wouldn’t say this is a favorite fashion moment of 2014 but it’s definitely a big one. Oscar de le Renta passed away October 20th. Although lost he and his designs will never be forgotten, especially in the fashion world. He became internationally known in the 60s for dressing Jackie O. From then on he progressed to a household name and an award winning designer. He worked for Lanvin and Balmaine and his fashion house will carry on his legacy and continue to dress leading stars. May he rest in peace.
Chanel Joins Forces with Feminism:
Chanel ruffled some feathers, tickled some fancies and took a stand on the runway this year. They presented a staged protest on feminism. The models were yelling, chanting and holding signs reading “History is Her Story,” “Free Freedom,” and “Ladies First.” A lot of people unsurprisingly raised the point that the runway seems a foolish place to protest feminism of all things. In response Karl Lagerfeld (head of Chanel’s house of design) told Fashionista “My mother was very much a feminist and I thought it was something right for the moment. I couldn’t care less if people are for or against. It’s my idea. I like the idea of feminism being something light-hearted, not a truck driver for the feminist movement.” To that I say huzzah!
Rihanna Wears Her Birthday Suit:
…..and it’s not even her birthday. She made the list a second time and that’s right Rihanna went nude, well, she may as well have. We all know Rihanna as being a girl who does whatever the heck she wants while easily brushing off public opinion, and that’s part of her charm. She said it best herself, “I may be bad, but I’m perfectly good at it.” She is shameless, bold, and unapologetic, in the best of ways. After Instagram censored some of her revealing photos, she, in protest of that, said, “Well how do you like this Instagram?” and bared it all at the CFDA Awards. She wore a dress designed by Adam Selman. It was floor length, covered in sparkles, appropriately nude in color and 150% see-through. She also had no bra and a nude thong. She was accepting the Fashion Icon of The Year award from Anna Wintour and personally, I think the entire stunt is so perfect because it’s so Rihanna.
