I love a good front porch and, although I wish I had one a tad bit bigger, I have turned my drab space into something fabulous and inviting! First things first, think of your porch as a space you can live in outside of your home, an extra room to hang out in the evening with the family or with a friend while enjoying a cocktail. Outside space is so important for your home, and when you live in state that allows you to be outside, take full advantage of it! My front porch started simple and, might I add…boring! Normal, concrete, and nothing pretty! But, since I love to decorate, there was no way I was going to leave this “room” left untouched! And it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money either. I like change, and I mean like every season, so I decorate with good products that are inexpensive and that can be moved around to get my money’s worth!
Start with a good pair of chairs, I found these at Target, or even a bench. Pretty them up with colorful cushions like these I found at Marshalls. They are sunbrella so they won’t fade, and I love the pop of color.
Add décor to the outside walls. Use something metal since it tends to hold up better outside and even though it may be covered. Good pieces can be found at Homegoods, Target, or even Michaels. I used two of these, once on each side.
Make sure and have something pretty hanging on your front door! I am still hanging my burlap July 4th wreath, because, after all…it’s still July and I love this wreath! I switch my front door decor out quite often with flower buckets and change the colors of the flowers through out the year. I also placed sconces on each side of the door with these cute little fake ferns I found at Nell Hill. I switch out the ferns with seasonal items throughout the year.
Fresh flowers are a must! I love to plant in planters with a variety of flowers. I always place them going up my steps because, well, it just looks good and the curb appeal is fantastic!
A pretty walkway. My front porch started as I said pretty drab, but since my hubby is very artistic and has a side business covering concrete, he created this beautiful flagstone look…I am in love! Another way to change the look is my staining your concrete any color you choose! Try Home Depot or Lowes for concrete stain.
