Get Rid of Dry Skin

AveenoWhen the snow starts falling and the cold air touches your face, the one thing that follows right after is the one thing everyone dreads…dry skin. Well, it’s time to beat the winter dryness. No matter where your skin gets the most dry, your elbows, knuckles, lips, or hands there is always a way to prevent it or help it.  I am here to help you get rid of dry skin.

Whenever I want to find a new moisturizer, it feels like I am trying to find my husband. It is all a trial and error type situation. I go on a few dates with different types of moisturizers and when I find the right one, that is the one I want to marry. So, I hope the following moisturizers can help you find your new “hubby”. Here are a few inexpensive and effective ways you can prevent dry skin during this horrible weather:

Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions Daily Moisturizing Lotion – If you are a person with sensitive and oily skin, this moisturizer is just the right match for you. This moisturizer is a two in one because it hydrates your skin and unclogs your pores. I would say that this is a winner and, best of all, it is inexpensive at only $17.90.

Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Cream – This night recovery cream is perfect for the people that want to replenish and repair their skin. It is easy to apply right before you go to bed and in the morning you wake up with skin feeling soft and smooth. This moisturizer is sold for $19.45.

Aveeno Daily Moisturizer – Layers of dry skin is never good, therefore you should try this daily, soothing moisturizer. It is a gentle lotion that can reduce the red and roughness of your skin. This product could only be found at your local drugstore for $13.50.

Eucerin Intensive Repair Extra Enriched Hand CrèmeThis brand is known as one of the best lotions on the market.  It is a creamy thick lotion that will add moisture and softness to even the driest hands. It will repair the damage and hydrate your skin very quickly. It will definitely not break your wallet with a price of $5.99.

Cetaphil Therapeutic Hand Cream – This lotion is similar to the Eucerin because it is therapeutic and hydrating. This product is highly recommended by dermatologists and sells for only $8.

Vaseline –  Plain old Vaseline! This is personally my favorite and the most effective way I keep my dry skin under control during the winter months. This is my favorite because it is an old remedy from my great grandfather. Before bed, I apply Vaseline all over my hands focusing on my knuckles and cuticles then I put a pair of clean old socks or knit gloves on my hands. After you apply, keep the socks or gloves on overnight and while you sleep the Vaseline, along with, the heat from keeping your hands covered allows the Vaseline to melt right into your skin.   You will wake up with the most soft and hydrated hands, you will feel like you just came back from a spa treatment.  All you need is Vaseline for $4.49 and a pair of clean socks or knit gloves.

EOS Lip Balm – EOS is the lip balm in the shape of an egg and is the big rave right now. They are fun to use and very effective. They are sold for $2.99 each and come in different flavors.

Burt’s Bees – Want your healthy lips back, apply this lip balm daily for a price of $2.36.

Blistex – Blistex comes in different flavors and hydrates your lips, what more do you need for only a price of $2.69.

These are just a few ways you can save your skin from a rough patch during these cold winter days. Better to be over hydrated then under hydrated – so start searching for that “hubby” of a lotion.  Just like searching for a husband, you have to find which one works best for you.  Lets survive these winter months together with soft, moist skin.  Happy Hunting!

Hi Sarah, thanks for the great ideas. My hands get so dry and red during the winter months. I tried the Vaseline remedy last night and woke up with soft beautiful hands ( good bye redness too)! I loved it was your great grandfather remedy. I will continue to do this once or twice a week. I look forward to more of your helpful tips !
