We want to make sure that you look your best, and it’s important to know how to properly wear makeup to achieve that goal. If you’ve ever stared wide-eyed at a palette of eye shadow wondering what colors would look best on you, the freak-outs stop here. Certain color combinations look best on specific eye colors. Let’s take a look at what colors you should be using for your green, brown, or blue eyes.

Bright blue eyes typically stand out on their own, but it’s always great to enhance them and make them pop even more. To do this, make sure that you have a bunch of brown and gold colors in your makeup collection. The blue and the brown contrast perfectly to make sure that your baby-blues will be the most prominent feature on your face. Beauties like Candice Swanepoel and Zooey Deschanel always rock a brown smokey-eye, and now you can bring out your blue eyes just like they do! Try using a light pink lipstick or gloss with your brown eye makeup to keep the browns on your lids vibrant. Also, make sure you bronze up your face to give you an overall glow that really makes your eyes stand out.

If you guessed that brown eyes stand out more when paired with a blue eye shadow, then you’re correct. Many brown-eyed girls feel that their eye color is super plain, but it doesn’t have to be that way! A navy or bright blue eye shadow combination can completely spice up your look and make your brown eyes sparkle like never before. Nicole Richie recently dazzled on the red carpet with her stunning blue eye makeup, and Vanessa Hudgens frequently adds a little blue to her eyes to get those brown eyes of hers to be the center of attention. A nude lip looks awesome with blue eye shadow because it doesn’t take away from the brightness of the color on your eyelids. Avoid a hot pink lip color because it will make you look way too overdone! Keep your cheeks fairly bare by using just a small amount of a pretty pink blush.

Green-eyed girls shouldn’t be afraid to wear purple eye shadow because it is the perfect color to emphasize that beautiful eye color. A deep purple haze across your lids and beneath your lash line looks so pretty against any skin type and especially for those girls who want to make sure that their emeralds are the thing on their face that stands out the most! Stars like Emma Stone always flaunt their green eyes by matching them with some purple liner or shadow, and the newly engaged Olivia Wilde loves to follow this makeup trend as well. To be daring, pair the purple eyes with a bright red lip! This look is gorgeous; just refer back to Selena Gomez in her “Love You Like a Love Song” music video to see what we mean. Top off your picture perfect look by sweeping a peach-toned blush across your cheekbones.

The above rules are correct: always use complementary colors as red, brown or orange shades if if you have blue eyes, or blue, violet and sometimes green shades if you have brown eyes (like me).

Thanks for the tips. I have blue eyes and tend to go with neutrals. I’ll have to pass the tip for purple on the my green eyed teenage daughter.
