Netflix Binging? Here are Some Activities for You to Do

Netflix show DOWN TO EARTH WITH ZAC EFRON is something you can watch while also performing another activity.

Netflix is releasing a plethora of new original content this month, which means if you need me, I will be watching Zac Efron’s new reality series (released today and pictured above!)

But here’s the thing: I am a fidgeter. Always have been, always will be. While I enjoy kicking back and watching a show, I will find myself gravitating toward my phone early into watching. Then, what ends up happening is that I don’t understand the show because I was distracted watching something on my phone. However, I’ve learned that if my body stays busy, my mind stays focused. So, here are some fun activities you can turn into hobbies while watching Netflix. Who doesn’t love multitasking?

Embroidery

I recently picked up this hobby when I started the Netflix series Glow. In that time I have embroidered my jeans, and drawn and embroidered my own designs on muslin scraps. They work as decoration, or you can turn them into something that can work inside your house; like a pillow or a dishrag. Careful! I have gone on auto-pilot and stuck myself because I’ve gotten too caught up with the show!

Knit

This is something that I have been wanting to do for a while! During the winter season, my friends who knit, bring their needles and yarn everywhere they go. The product? Tons of hats, scarves, and mittens for their friends. While it is summer right now, you can always plan for the future or make a blanket to have a backyard picnic on!

Exercise and Stretch

I know that after a long day, exercising is often the last thing we want to do. However, that small rush of endorphins gives me the energy I need to get through the rest of my night. Also, stretching is something I neglect to do until I physically feel that I need to stretch. There is a myriad of health reasons you should make this a part of your routine, and what other time to do this when you’re already winding down for the night?

Paint Your Nails

Having your nails done can be pricey, and if you’re a college student like me, you probably like saving money. Take the time to invest in yourself and during your next Netflix binge, choose your favorite O.P.I color and go to town.

Draw

It really doesn’t matter what your artistic skill level is for this. Your house should be a judgment-free zone. I can’t draw worth a lick but it often helps me unwind when I’m watching Netflix. Don’t put pressure on yourself to draw right away, sometimes what you’re watching will give you a rush of inspiration.

Bake

Recently, my roommate has been taking her laptop into the kitchen and baking the most amazing goods. From galettes, to cinnamon bread, and lemon raspberry cake…okay, now I’m just bragging about the treats I get to eat. She has Netflix playing in the background as she whips up something tasty. Plus, it is something you can share with everyone in your house!

Organize Those Files You’ve Been Ignoring

Okay, to be fair, this isn’t necessarily a hobby, but we can count it as a necessity. My laptop is positively overflowing with documents I no longer need and pictures that need to placed into a folder. Cleaning out files, virtual or physical, declutters my space and my mind. It personally helps with stress, which is something we can all have less of.
