New Year, New Music
It’s 2015. You’re committing to resolutions, you’re freshening up your wardrobe, you’re reinventing yourself and boppin’ around with a new energy and sense of self. The question is, what are you boppin’ to? What beat is putting the pep in your step? What is your soundtrack to your new year? It’s time to prepare yourself for the music of 2015. So here’s your spot to check out the up and coming.
Madonna will be releasing Rebel Heart, so far the album campaign has had a very “Lemony Snicket” feel to it, in other words, it’s been a series of unfortunate events for the material girl. Due to a brave self comparison to “fellow rebels” Nelson Mandela and MLK she was quickly accused of being not only a racist but also an egomaniac. She also had leaked album artwork along with six leaked songs (all of which were lack-luster). These events make me nervous that 2015 may not be the year for Madonna, musically speaking. I suppose we will see on Mar. 10th when the album drops.
Rihanna, had a streak where she was releasing one album a year, hit albums I might add. Yes, Bad Gal Ri-ri seems to strike gold every time she gets into the studio, with singles that we can’t stop humming and albums that we can’t stop playing. It’s all just rumors at the moment but fingers crossed for the supposed R8 album. She did make a song with Paul McCartney, Ty Dolla $ign, and Yeezus (Kanye West) recently. There’s also been speak of her spending quite a bit of time in the studio working on supposed collaborations with Dj Mustard and Ne-Yo as well as Sam Smith (I’m really wishing on a star for that one). The best we can do is hope but knowing Rihanna, I think she’s cooking up something major for the year.
She ‘ain’t no hollaback girl but she might be coming out of hiding in 2015. That’s right, Gwen Stefani is working with the oh-so happy Pharrell and I’m very excited to see what they come up with. Another lady that seems to have been out of the limelight for awhile is the lovely Fergie who is pairing up with a couple of the most influential producers of the moment, DJ Mustard and Mike Will Made It, I’m hoping for at least a catchy single.
Some of our “for sure” albums are Kid Rock’s First Kiss releasing on Feb. 24th, Imagine Dragons Smoke + Mirrors Feb. 17th and Fall Out Boy’s American Beauty, American Psycho which is out this month, on the 20th!
Drake has promised a 2015 spring album which I’m sure will rip through the charts and quickly head to the top. Of course, I’m just basing that on past results but the rap/hip-hop charmer has yet to release a real dud, and even if he did I’m sure there is many a swooning girl that would rush to defend it.
I’m eager to listen to Kid Ink’s Full Speed which unfortunately does not have a release date at the moment. Adorn singer Miguel also has an album coming this year, which is sure to have that seductive-cool sound Miguel provides.
Last but not least is the newbies that made a splash last year and might continue to do so this year including, the ever-fancy Iggy Azalea as well as Meghan Trainor and Sam Smith.
