Oh my Oats! A Cinnamon Oatmeal Recipe

This Oatmeal Recipe unites the best of both worlds: breakfast with a sweet crunch.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. This staple saying is true, and this cinnamon oatmeal recipe will make you happily oblige to cooking the meal that will power you throughout the day. With cinnamon, brown sugar, and apples this oatmeal is abundant in flavor. The apples contribute to the sweetness while also providing a crunch. The combination of the soft oatmeal and crunchy apple compliment each other with much delight. The meal is a quick prep allowing you to get on with your day in whatever speed you are so accustomed to. Its warmth is perfect company especially on a winter morning.

Its great motivation to pry yourself out of bed as you know a delicious breakfast will be there to greet you in just a few quick minutes. The oatmeal can be made with milk or water, but I find that the milk adds extra protein to the meal and leaves you with a better consistency.

Background:

The first meal of the day is important for many reasons. I believe that one of the most prominent is that it sets the tone for the day. This oatmeal will have you on the right side of the bed while leaving you energy filled with many of the nutrients your body needs. The apple and milk fufill the health requirements while the sugar and cinnamon contribute to the taste that will spike your happiness. The oatmeal can be purchased anywhere and takes a maximum of 90 seconds to be warmed, making it quick and convenient. The individual packets are a plus, as its a perfect serving size for one. It’s not a heavy meal, but it is sure to fill you.

Its a cozy meal that manages to motivate you to get the day started. This is a breakfast item that is capable of many things. It is affordable and easy to keep these items in your kitchen as most are long lasting and can be used as ingredients for other meals you make as well. This five ingredient concoction allows you to alter desired amounts of apple, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and even oatmeal. If you are cooking for more than one person you can buy a container of oats, which will allow you to make more at one time. The sweetness is by no means overwhelming rather it is subtle but essential.

Cinnamon Oatmeal Ingredients:

First, let’s chat ingredients…

  • Oatmeal: Any type of oatmeal will do but I typically purchase the ones that come in individual packets. However, you can buy the oatmeal that comes in a large container and allows you to choose your own serving size. If you purchase the large container usually 1 cup of oatmeal is sufficient.
  • Cinnamon: Use 1-2 tablespoons of cinnamon. If you desire more or less you can alter the amounts.
  • Apples: Use ½ an apple chopped into small squares so that they are proportional to bite-size.
  • Milk: Use ½ – ⅔ cup of milk. Any type of milk can be used whether it be oat, almond, skim, or regular.
  • Sugar: Use a spoonful of brown sugar. Of course more or less can be added if you want it to be sweeter. Any other type of sugar can be used as well. I find that brown sugar is most complementary to the tone of the meal.

How to Make Cinnamon Oatmeal:

  • Prep the Oatmeal. Add the prepackaged bag of oatmeal to a bowl. If you are using oatmeal from a container use 1 cup of oatmeal. Then add a ½-⅔ cup of milk to the oatmeal and microwave it for 90 seconds.
  • Prep the Apple. While the oatmeal is in the microwave wash and cut your apple. Cut about ½ of it into small squares.
  • Add In Sugar. Once the oatmeal is done add a spoonful of brown sugar in and mix it so that it is evenly distributed.
  • Add in Cinnamon and Apple. Add in about a tablespoon of cinnamon and mix it around as well. Then top the oatmeal with the chopped apple. For a final touch add a dash of cinnamon on the top.

Notes:

You can alter the amounts of cinnamon, apple, and sugar that you add to the oatmeal.
