Runway-Inspired Smokey Eyes

Smokey eyes dominate the runway each year at fashion week. Luckily, you don’t have to be a model to wear them! Smokey eyes are easy to perfect in a few simple steps.

Before you begin, use a primer to coat your eyelids. This will give you a smooth surface and will help the shadows adhere longer. Next, draw a fine line on your upper lid close to your lash line from the inner towards the outer corner of the eye. Liquid liners work best to create precise lines, but any eyeliner will work.

When choosing shadow colors, be sure there is a variation in light and dark shades. If you are having trouble choosing colors, choose a palate that comes with three or four different shadows- they work great for smokey eyes. Take the second lightest eye shadow and apply it in the inner corner of the eye to about three thirds into the lid.

Take the darkest colored eye shadow and apply it on the outer corner of the eye working your way on the lid. Blend the darker shadow into the crease of your eyelid so the two colors don’t look too separate.

Swipe the lightest shade under your brow bone and in the corners of your eyes to create highlights.

Now just apply mascara and eyeliner to your lower lid and you have runway-inspired smokey eyes! Don’t be afraid to try untraditional colors! Smokey eyes can be done with blues, greens, purples and more! Here are some other fun summer smokey eye styles to try:
