We all have those summer days; where the weather is too hot to endure, but there’s absolutely nothing exciting to watch on t.v. All that will change, once you program these promising new summer series into your DVR. You can banish the heat and have something entertaining to watch while being a couch potato. Nothing better than that! Check out my top six summer shows below.
1) Chasing Life ABC Family Tuesdays 9/8 Central
Although the pilot premiered on ABC Family two weeks ago, it isn’t too late to catch up on this heartwarming drama. You can watch the first two episodes on abcfamily.com! The show follows aspiring journalist April who received news that no one would care to read: she has cancer. Upon this devastating news, April tries to balance her home life and the life she is chasing. Will she be able to conquer cancer and pave out the life she’s always wanted to live? Tune in on Tuesday nights to find out!
2) Rising Star ABC Sundays 9/8 Central
Premieres on ABC this Sunday: June 22nd
Although you may be tired of the whole “reality singing competition” theme, Rising Star seems to have some new elements that may change your mind. The potential contestants perform behind a wall which prevents the judges from seeing or interacting with them entirely. During the performance, the show requires the input of viewers at home as to whether to keep or cut contestants. The contestant must receive 70% of the vote for the wall to go up and for them to go on to the next round. This definitely sounds quite different from singing shows such as American Idol and The Voice. The high reliance on audience participation is part of what makes this show so unique. Adding to the uniqueness is the exciting panel of celebrity judges including Brad Paisley, Ludacris & Kesha! I, for one, am excited to see how this show turns out and how well personalities mesh among the judges.
3) Young and Hungry
Premieres on ABC Family Wednesday June 25th
This ABC family comedy series focuses on the life of Gabi, a passionate food blogger and hopeful chef. Gabi is determined to become the personal chef of an attractive and successful entrepreneur named Josh. As a chance to prove herself, she offers to cook up a romantic meal for Josh and his girlfriend. The dinner doesn’t go as planned and Gabi finds herself feeling heat from more than just the kitchen.
4) Girl Meets World
Premieres on Disney Friday June 27th
Talk about a blast from the past!Girl Meets World is the highly anticipated television sequel to the 90’s comedy Boy Meets World. It takes place 10 years later, where we get to see Cory and Topanga Matthews married with two kids. We aren’t certain how well this is going to play out, but considering Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel will play their Boy Meets World lovebird characters, we’re thrilled to welcome them back into our hearts and homes.
5) The Leftovers
Premieres Sunday June 29th at 10 p.m.
This HBO series is based off the book of the same name by Tom Perrotta. It takes place three years after 2% of the world’s population disappears. It focuses on a small town that is left struggling with anger, grief and confusion as to what might have happened.
6) Finding Carter
Premieres Tuesday July 8th at 10/9 central on MTV
Imagine having your seemingly perfect life turned around in an instance, when the revelation of one big secret changes your life forever. This is exactly what happened to Carter, a teenaged girl whose life was near perfect up until that night. After a police bust at a party, Carter is told that the woman who she calls mom is actually an abductor who kidnapped her as a young child. Now, Carter must face the fear of leaving her old life behind in order to uncover her real identity.
There you have it, six new TV series to add to your DVR listing! No need to thank me, a bowl of popcorn and a comfy seat reserved on the couch will do just fine.
