Most of us girls have concocted a homemade facial at least once in our life. They’re fun and they allow you to feel like you’re in control of your skin. Who doesn’t love that extremely invigorating feeling after washing? Although homemade facials appear to have many benefits, just how good are they and how do they compare to store products? Here’s a list of Pros and Cons to give you a better understanding of homemade facials.
✔They are all natural.
✔They make great exfoliators.
✔They often use household ingredients so you don’t even need to buy anything.
✔They’re easy to make.
✔They’re fun to try with friends.
✔They’re multi-beneficial. Some treat more than one skin issue at once.
✔There’s a variety of recipes from honey & cinnamon to honey & oatmeal.
✔There’s recipes for just about every skin problem!
✘They might not work as quickly as something with stronger ingredients.
✘They can get messy.
✘They usually only make one application.
✘Most of them aren’t that great for sensitive skin.
✘Beware: to prevent any skin reactions, you MUST be extra careful while preparing them.
From my research, it would seem that the pros outweigh the cons, but even so it’s up to you to decide whether you want to give them a try. Since homemade facials are made from a variety of ingredients, there’s one for every skin type. Normal/oily skin can usually handle a number of concoctions. However, if you have sensitive skin, be on the lookout for these extra gentle ingredients: Honey, oatmeal, egg yolks.
