Tips & Tricks to Steal a Moment for Yourself

We all often have busy times in our lives.  But, it is important that you take the time to steal a moment for yourself.   fruitwater is encouraging women everywhere to take the time to steal more moments for you.  Also, Seriously Distracted is a show focusing on women stealing moments in pop culture.  You can tune in Tuesdays on POPSUGAR to watch Seriously Distracted.  Check out this episode to see how to steal a moment for yourself.

Here are 4 Small Tricks to Steal a Moment for Yourself:

1.  If you are ever feeling angry or frustrated, try putting your finger in between your teeth and closing your lips.

This creates an automatic smile and is so ridiculous it will have you giggling at yourself.  It is a proven fact that the more you smile, the less stress you will suffer from and the happier you will be in general!  I do this in class when I am having trouble with the material or in work when a colleague or boss is frustrating me.

2.  Write down three gratitudes a morning in a gratitude journal.

When you take the time to search for the things that you are thankful for in the morning, you are more likely to unconsciously search for them throughout the day!

3. Compliment someone daily (and mean it!).

If you make a point of searching for the good in people, even if it is the smallest details, you will not get as easily annoyed by your colleagues and classmates.  Plus, when you make someone else feel good, you will feel good in return!

4. Always have snacks with you.

If you are anything like me, you turn into some version of the Hulk when you are not fed.  Keeping healthy snacks in your purse and car will keep you from turning into a “hangry” monster and will also keep you from going to fast food restaurants.

Some Long-Run Tricks:

1.  Wake up every morning with a goal for the day.

Every day, you are asked to do a million things.  At work, at home, at school, no matter what there is always a lot to keep track of.  By making one smaller goal each day, you can have a little victory no matter how much happens throughout your busy day!

2. Keep a “good, better, how” journal.

We cannot be perfect every day, but there is a way to improve every day.  The “good, better, how” journal is fairly explanatory.  If you had a tough assignment at work or school, an interview, or even a sports match, directly following the event you can write down what you did well, what you can improve upon, and how to improve.  In this way, the next time you come across a similar situation you are more prepared and know what to expect.

3.  Always give yourself extra time to get places.

Stress is the main reason that people are kept from having a happy, healthy day.  One way to escape stress is to always allot yourself a little extra time for travel.  Freaking out on your way to work because you are late for that meeting is not a great way to start your day, so wake up just 10 minutes earlier and have a nice relaxing ride.  I lay out my outfits the night before to help out with this.

4.  Exercise a little bit every day (this DOES NOT mean going to the gym).

You’ve heard it a million times, but it is worth restating.  Exercising makes you more productive throughout the day and releases all of those happy endorphins, so you are feeling good from the very start of your day!  If this means simply doing a few crunches or push-ups before you leave in the morning, that is fine!  You will always feel better having done a little than having done nothing at all.

5. Pamper yourself at least once a week.

All of you super busy working women are reading this and saying, “Ya right, like I have time for that.”  I promise, you do.  Some weeks, this will simply mean making yourself an extra special lunch or blasting your favorite Pandora station and dancing with yourself.  It does not matter how, but find a way to make yourself smile each week.

A stolen moment is a sliver of time you find and take for yourself during your busy, on-the-go day. It’s the perfect occasion for a tasty, zero-calorie fruitwater .
