Wear This, Not That: Short Girls’ Edition

Being a shorty has its perks: You can fit into small places, you never have to worry about your significant other being taller than you are, and, every once in a while, you can fit into clothes from the children’s section (which are cheaper). However, there is a down side: there are just certain looks that shorter girls can’t pull off.

Attention shorties: Though there are some outfits that just won’t compliment your little legs, there are some great alternatives that you can rock like you’ve never been measured.

Don’t: Wear Maxi Dresses

Maxi dresses will only emphasize how many inches a shorter woman is lacking. Often, shorties will find they couldn’t wear a maxi if they tried, because the dresses are  generally made for 5’4 and above, and will drag on the ground.

Do: Rock a Maxi Skirt

Because the skirt cuts off at your waist, it doesn’t accentuate shortness as much. It’s also possible to wear them higher with your shirt tucked in, or roll the skirt so it doesn’t drag on the ground.

Don’t: Wear a Short Formal Dress

Short formal dresses are usually meant to stop just above the knees. Unfortunately, for most shorter girls, they end up hanging at the knees or below them. This is not a flattering look, and, if you’re going to fork out the cash for a nice dress, you want to look like a million bucks.

Do: Go for a Longer Formal Gown

A mermaid dress or ball gown will be more flattering, and it also gives off a more sophisticated tone.

Don’t: Wear Knee-High Boots

The taller the boot, the heavier shorter girls generally look. This is because knee-highs cut your legs in half (and let’s be honest there wasn’t much leg there to begin with).

Do: Wear a Boot with a Medium Shaft Height

Boots are a cute and classy fall or winter look, if worn appropriately. Instead of overwhelming your legs with height, go for a boot that cuts off mid-calf, paired with leg warmers.
