Summer is finally here, and beaches are open. Packing to go to the beach, lake, or pool can be stressful when choosing exactly what to bring. Let me share with you my beach bag essentials.

Sunscreen

This is an obvious beach bag essential, and something that everyone needs to be wearing every time they are in the sun. When looking for a good sunscreen, look for Zinc Oxide mentioned under the active ingredients. Sunscreens are made with harmful chemicals for you and the planet, so this one is clean. Also, the number mentioned on sunscreen is how often you should be applying it.

Towel

The next beach bag essential is another must have. If you are like me though, you bring one towel to dry off with and another towel/blanket to lay on. You can never be too prepared.

Hand Sanitizer

With everything going on in the world, it is better to be safe than sorry. Bring hand sanitizer everywhere you go, but especially at the beach since you will be touching the sand and ocean.

Chapstick

This is another common beach bag essential, but did you know you can sunburn your lips? I recommend getting a chapstick with SPF in it. Trust me, it’s a small change that makes a big difference.

Snacks

Of course, there are restaurants near the beach, but it is so simple to pack a few snacks. My beach bag essential snacks are hint of lime chips and a jar of salsa, or a container of cut up fruit. Both things are light and refreshing and usually a fan favorite with friends.

Cover Up

I love to bring a pair of distressed denim shorts or a loose flowy dress to throw over my bathing suit. This is perfect for running to the restrooms, grabbing food along the boardwalk, or exploring the beach town. Pack something simple and easy, because you don’t want to be putting on tight clothing after being sunburnt and sandy.

Sunglasses

This is another go to beach bag essential. Sunglasses are obviously needed so you can see, but I recommend bringing a cheaper pair that way if you lose then in the ocean it isn’t a big deal. Also, for sun bathing I recommend bringing a hat or visor as well to block out the sun from your eyes and the sensitive skin on your face.

Book

My favorite thing to do on the beach is sit and read. Something about the sound of the waves, the beach breeze, and the warmth of the sun makes me want to relax and read. I recommend a novel, as it’s something more light and easy to read. It gives you the feeling of an escape.

Reusable Water Bottle

This is another great beach bag essential that everyone should bring. With being in the sun, you will be getting dehydrated, so water is a must. The best water bottles are either Yeti or Hydroflask because you can put ice in them in the morning and they will stay cold all day.

Hair Clip

If you go in the ocean at the beach, you know how crazy your hair gets after. For the trip home or going to get food after being on the beach you are going to want to put your messy hair up. I recommend a banana clip since these are on trend right now and super easy.
