10 Classic Quotes from The Lion King
Who knew a movie about life in the wild could change so many lives? In 1994 Disney relased a new film about the circle of life and impacted animated history forever. Directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, kids and adults alike were quickly enchanted by the story of Simba, Nala, and the rest of the Lion King gang. Today we’re taking a look back at some of our favorite quotes from the film that changed the game.
In no particular order, here are 10 Classic Quotes from Disney’s “The Lion King.”
“The past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it, or learn from it.” –Rafiki, The Lion King pic.twitter.com/ZTnBDZZHNY

“Oh yes, the past can hurt. But from the way I see it, you can either run from it, or learn from it.”
A staple quote from the film. We see Rafiki speak words of wisdom when times are tough, (literally) knocking some sense into Simba. True indeed, sometimes things in life can hurt us. But what really makes a difference is what we do with them.
“We are all connected in the great Circle of Life.“
Mufasa’s words that inspire one, if not the biggest song of the film. This quote reminds us all that in the end, we are all connected. Therefor it would do in our best interest to work together and take care of each other. Because we’re all we have.
“Remember who you are.”
Simple and to the point. Sometimes in life things get crazy and we lose our way. What’s important is to never forget where we came from. This plays a vital part, whether good or bad, in shaping who we are. And it’s key to remember that during the difficult moments.
“I’m surrounded by idiots.”
Because sometimes we all feel like this. For those times you literally just can’t, Scar speaks a few words that make us feel like we’re understood. Luckily things always turn around, but for those few moments we can’t help but chuckle and feel like finally someone understands.
“There’s more to being a king than getting your way all the time.”
A hard lesson we all have to learn. We might not be kings, but figuring out that the world doesn’t always revolve around us can be a hard pill to swallow. We just have to remember what really matters and surround ourselves with people that will bring us back to reality.
“It’s times like this my buddy Timon here says: you got to put your behind in your past.”
Maybe not the best phrased, but the sentiment is still there. Timon and Pumba make the message clear: you can’t let your past hold you back. At the end of the day, the only one in control is you. And like our first quote from Rafiki, it’s up to you on how to handle it.
“Truth is in the eye of the beholder.”
So accurate! For being the bad guy of the film, Scar certainly had his moments of clarity and truth. In the end, the truth can’t and won’t fully impact you unless you allow it to. We can believe anything if we really put our minds to it. The real job is deciding what to believe as true.
“Out of the ashes of this tragedy, we shall rise to greet the dawning of a new era.”
Again, another moment of brilliance from Scar. True, it came out of a place of hate and evil, but outside of the initial context the quote is pretty inspirational. Sometimes we all need a few words to inspire us to rise up, to make the change, and to fight.
“As you go through life, you will see that there is so much that we don’t understand. And the only thing we know is things don’t always go the way we plan.”
Simba totally knows what he’s talking about. Life typically doesn’t go according to plan- that’s the one thing we can always count on. But once we make our peace with this and prepare ourselves to roll with the punches, our outcomes are much more likely to turn out for the better.
“Hakuna Matata”
In case anyone isn’t aware, it means no worries. And while that isn’t always possible to practice, the reminder is still there. This classic quote is the perfect one to round off our list. At the end of the day, sometimes you just need to step back and enjoy the ride.
And that’s our list! Tell us your favorite Lion King quotes in the comments!
