Lúcia struggles to obey the Chosen One's orders, as she sees her mission as kidnapping, immoral and criminal. Silvino attempts to ease her trepidation, telling her that she is doing mankind a favor. He himself holds much faith in the Chosen One's destiny.

Leading the village's young adults to a campsite, so they may be assigned their future roles, Mateus tells them about the Serpent. According to his knowledge, the evil creature can change its face to mirror any living being, even those sanctified.

Isaías is a young man in the village, in love with a girl named Raquel. Although she returns his affections, the Chosen One has declared her to be the wife of another. Disheartened, they discuss ways to avoid Raquel's impending marriage.

Zulmira is Mateus' older wife, who knows of his affair with Lúcia and is displeased with it. Headstrong and rational, she is one of the few in Aguazul who stands up to its rigid patriarchial system. Though somewhat hardened by her loveless marriage, she remains an important pillar of her community, particularly its women and children.

In private, Damião manages to get a reluctant Angelina to take vitamins. This, however, is caught by Eva on camera. She begins to suspect that something ominous is afoot in Aguazul.

Lúcia succeeds in abducting a woman with looks similar to Angelina's, but she is wracked with guilt. The cure for illness is steep, no matter through religion or medicine.

Mrs. Cleuza is the former good friend of Santiago, Mateus, and the Chosen One's deceased mother. Although she helped raised the brothers, Mrs. Cleuza has now sided with the Serpent. She accuses the Chosen One of hypocrisy and points out the deception lurking within his village.

With no one trustworthy enough to turn toward, Eva seeks Damião out. In her footage of the Chosen One's rituals, she notices something strange about his movements. It appears that he is using an organ-like prop of some kind.

The Chosen One has cured Lúcia of her sickness, but this also causes her to experience forceful visions. They span from memories to ambiguous images in her head, making her constantly nauseous.

Upon gentle probing, Silvino lets slip to Eva some vital information. Ever since being cured by the Chosen One, his wife has been feeling strange. She now refuses to step foot in the village again, having developed a wariness against the saintly figure.

Hearing about Mateus' interference with Raquel and Isaías' relationship, Zulmira grows furious at her husband's hypocrisy. She lets loose to Raquel some bitter feelings over his affair, warning the girl that not all divine callings are to be answered blindly.
