15 Bean Soup: Hurst Beans Easy Slow Cooker Recipe
Now that Fall is almost here, it is time to break out your favorite recipes for the season! This Hurst Beans Slow Cooker Recipe is the perfect recipe to give your home a delicious aroma on a chilly day.

The great thing about this bean soup recipe is that most of your ingredients rely on the use of hurst 15-bean soup mix. This soup mix is great because you get a delicious variety of beans all in one package.
The bean mix contains 15 different dry beans including great northern beans, pinto beans, large lima, yelloweye, garbanzo, baby lima, green split, kidney, cranberry, small white, pink, small red, yellow split, lentil, navy, white kidney, and black beans.
With such a wonderful flavor and simple ingredients, this is one of my favorite easy family recipes.
Slow cooking either in a crockpot or on a stovetop is the best way to prepare this slow cooker ham soup recipe. This is because you will have ample time to draw out the flavors from all of the ingredients.
With only 10 minutes of prep time and a 6 hour cook time, this slow cooker soup is one of those great recipes you can start early and then just leave it to cook in your pressure cooker. This slow-cooked meal highlights how the deliciously flavorful beans pair with ham in this hearty soup.

Hurst Beans Slow Cooker Recipe Ingredients
Before you start cooking, let’s talk ingredients for this classic recipe.
- 1 pkg HamBeens® 15 BEAN SOUP®: A package of this delicious bean mix is the base ingredient for this recipe. This package will be very easy to find at your local grocery store.
- 8 C chicken broth: Your favorite chicken stock will add an extra yummy flavor to this recipe. You can also substitute beef broth, vegetable broth or 8 cups water. Whether you use broth or water, just be sure that you have 8 cups of liquid total.
- 1lb Meat: For the meat in this recipe people usually can use ham hocks or diced ham. You can also use a leftover hambone with any extra meat, beef roast, or ground sausage like andouille sausage (brown first). Some ham will also come with a little seasoning packet that you can add for extra flavor too. For another yummy ideas you can pick the meat from a smoked turkey leg and add that too.
- Large Onion diced: An onion will add even more flavor to this savory dish.
- 1 Clove garlic, minced
- 1 tsp chili powder: Chili powder will add a hint of spice and flavor the the
- 4 Tbs Lemon Juice: For the acidic ingredients we’re adding fresh lemon juice! This will pair perfectly with the ham and beans, bringing out the best in all of the flavors.
How To Make Hurst Beans Slow Cooker Recipe
Here’s how to create this hurst’s beans easy recipe! Note that this recipe follows the no soak method, but you can also use the quick soak method. By the end of the cooking time of this recipe you will have a savory dish of irresistible soup!
- Rinse beans: Rinse the package of beans in a strainer and use this time to pick out and discard any unwanted debris.
- Pour beans: Pour the rinsed beans into your slow cooker, crock pot, or instant pot. Then add 8 cups of water or broth, onion, garlic, and meat, stirring to combine.
- Cook on High: Since this is the no soak recipe, cook mixture on high 5-6 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Make sure beans are done: Once you have tender beans you can remove the leftover ham bone, keeping any other ham or meat in the soup.
- Add additional ingredients: Once your beans are tender and you have removed the bones, add the ham flavor packet, lemon juice, and chili powder. or optional dash of hot sauce
- Cook 30 more minutes
- Garnish: Top your soup with optional garnish like red pepper flakes, celery stalks, cheddar cheese, or a dollop of sour cream. You can also serve it with a slice of corn bread to make the perfect meal.
Notes
There are different types of Hurst brands beans. If you choose to use the hurst’s hambeens cajun mix you will also have a delicious cajun seasoning packet to add a kick to your soup. When you are cooking for a family who likes spice I recommend the slow cooker cajun soup using hurst’s cajun mix.
If you want more fresh vegetables in your soup, some people have added kale, bell peppers, and a can of diced tomatoes to give the soup more flavor. A great way to add even more flavor is to cook a few strips of bacon in some olive oil, dice them up, and add it to the soup making it ham, beans, and bacon soup!
Another important note is that every time you open the lid of the slow cooker then cooking time will increase.No matter who you cook this soup for, they will give you a big thanks and finish every last drop of the delicious soup!
