Sushi has become an incredibly chic meal in the US.  Sushi bars and restaurants are popping up all over major cities and we are excited for Kansas City to get in on this super trendy meal.

Kansas City is the heart of a very important logistical hub for foodies in America. While the homegrown ramen shops and barbecue joints are plentiful, there are just as many great sushi restaurants that make it worth visiting on your next trip.

From the large chains on the Plaza to the small mom-and-pop shops down the block, we’ve searched for the best sushi restaurants in Kansas City.  These 16 restaurants impressed us with their inventive menus, appetizing flavors, vibrant spaces, and authenticity.

Kona Grill

Though this small, strip mall restaurant may appear mediocre, don’t let the space distract you from the truly delicious menu.  The compact space holds a full sushi bar, Japanese grill, and Vietnamese menu items. The food is always fresh and authentic.  Stop in for lunch and grab a Bento Box which includes: miso or onion soup, steamed rice, a house salad, your choice of teriyaki, and your choice of a roll for just $10.95.

This chic, modern chain located in KC’s Power and Light District boasts over 20 awards for their premium dining experience.  Beautifully presented (and tasty AF) sushi rolls, delicious cocktails that pair perfectly with their entrees, and Happy Hour specials that make us jump for joy wins the Drunken Fish a place on our list.

Sushi Haru is a cozy locally owned Japanese grill with fresh sushi, delicious drinks, and a beyond friendly staff!  The owners at Sushi Haru take pride in their inviting atmosphere, meticulously selected ingredients, and excellent cuisine.  After running errands or shopping at the neighboring shopping center, stop in to enjoy a specialty roll or a bento box.

Moonlight Sushi Bar & Grill
