Diving into the History
Though the storyline is similar, there are still some differences. The idea of the story is the same, but the 101 Dalmatians quotes are different from The One Hundred and One Dalmatians quotes. For example-Dodie Smith, the creator of this story, originally named Perdy, Missis Pongo. Smith wrote, “Not long ago, there lived in London a young married couple of Dalmatian dogs named Pongo and Missis Pongo. (Missis had added Pongo’s name to her own on their marriage, but was still called Missis by most people).”
Along with this name change, in the original storyline, Roger and Anita’s last name is Radcliff. In this adaptation, their last name is Dearly. Also, Roger’s job in the cartoon was as a musician, whereas in the live action, he is a videogame designer. Then the beloved Danny the Great Dane did not make a ‘great’ appearance in the live action and the character was minimized..
The two couples meet on a beautiful spring day. It was love at first sight for the dogs, it was love at first ‘fall” for the humans as they both took a tumble into the lake. After a double wedding, the family got bigger when a litter of dalmatian puppies joined the picture. When Cruella found out about them, she desired them to make a coat. So, she got her henchman to pretend to work for the electric company to trick Nanny into letting them into their home to steal the puppies. The movie follows the epic adventure to retrieve the puppies and save them from their fatal end.
Here is a the scoop on the best 101 Dalmatians quotes:!
1. “Fools aren’t born, Pongo; pretty girls make them in their spare time.” -Roger
Roger just left his initial meeting with Anita, riding home wet, shoeless, and on a broken bike. He is completely embarrassed because he crashed into the pond, almost stole her dog, and made a fool of himself. Like any boy who gets nervous, they always blame the ‘pretty girl.’
2. “Do you want another cup of marriage, uh, tea?” – Roger
Apparently, Roger “resuscitated’ after her dive into the water, but in actuality, he ended up kissing her. Anita and Roger are sitting all warm and cozy on the couch after their eventful introduction- where both of them ended up in the pond.
They are talking about how their dogs Pongo and Perdy are ‘in love.’ It is clear that both of these humans are in infatuated with each other as well. Being as nervous and awkward as Roger can be, slips up and says ‘marriage’ instead of tea. He clearly like Anita and Anita likes his quirkiness.
3. (After believing Roger is taking Perdy, holding up her purse) “Now, release my dog, or I’ll hit you again!” – Anita
After Pongo caused him to go flying into a pond off his bike, wet and angry Rogers mistakes Perdy for Pongo and thinks it’s his dog. Anita, being the protective dog-mom she is, goes after Roger to prevent him from taking Perdy home.
This is definitely a misunderstanding, but scary nonetheless watching someone try to take away your fur-baby. I would hit someone too.
4. Anita: Oh, I’d like a nice fur, but there are other nice things…
Cruella De Vil: Sweet, simple Anita! I know, I know! This horrid little house is your dream castle! And poor Roger is your bold and fearless Sir Galahad!
Anita: Oh, Cruella…
Cruella De Vil: And then of course, you have your little spotted friends…
[She peers at a picture of Pongo and Perdita and blows smoke around it]
Cruella De Vil: Yes I must say, such perfectly beautiful coats…
Here, we see sweet Anita, who is content and satisfied with the simple things of life. We also see Cruella, who wants the flashy and showy things that are outrageous and over the top. Two very different women and Cruella makes sure Anita knows it through a condescending attitude and sarcastic tone.
5. Roger: “Did Anita tell you the news?”
Cruella De Vil: *smiles*
Roger: “She’s going to have a baby.”
Cruella De Vil: *frowns with a disgusted look* “Is this true?”
Anita: “Yes.”
Cruella De Vil: “Oh you poor thing. I’m so sorry.”
Anita: “We’re very excited about it Cruella.”
Cruella De Vil: “You can’t be serious.”
Roger: “She is.”
Cruella De Vil: “Well what can I say? Accidents will happen.”
Clearly, Cruella is not fond of children. But she is also not fond of potentially losing Anita. She knows Anita might quit if she has a baby, so Cruella is expressing her disgust and disappointment in receiving this big news.
6. Cruella: “Be sure to let me know when the blessed event occurs.”
Anita: (referring to her pregnancy) “It won’t be for another eight months.”
Cruella: “The puppies, darling. I have no use for babies.”
As we see here, Cruella is more interested in the birth of the puppies rather than the birth of a child. She sees dollar signs and dog skin coats with every puppy that will be born. From this scene on, you can see the gears spinning in her head as she plots to someone get the puppies and exploit them for her gain.
7. “We lose more women to marriage than war, famine, disease, and disaster.” –Cruella
Cruella is talking to Anita about her dreams in the company. Anita says that she has no desire to ever leave for a competing brand or quit in general. She says the only reason she would resign would be for marriage and to have a family.
Clearly, Cruella is not a family-orientated person, so she quickly diminishes this idea for Anita and puts down the traditional concept of domestic women.
8. “Congratulations. You’ve just won gold, silver, and bronze in the Morons Olympics!” –Cruella
Cruella, Jasper, Horace, and Mr. Skinner have all been arrested and they are crammed in the back of a police van. Angry and livid, she snaps at her henchman because she blames her them for getting them caught. She calls them morons because they had one job and could not even do that right.
9. “And you call yourselves men? Huh? I’ve seen more intelligent pieces of carpet!” –Cruella
Still yelling at Horace and Jasper in the back of the police van, Cruella keeps attacking them verbally and insulting them. She is beyond fed up with them and despises them, accusing them of having a limited intelligence. Her reputation and life is over and she blames it all on them.
10. “Thank you. Now go stand somewhere until I need you.”–Cruella
Cruella is a demanding and selfish person. She is not afraid to tell people what to do and use them for her personal gain. Here, Cruella said this to her assistant, which shows she has no consideration for those she employs. People are tools to her and nothing more.
11. “Darling, red isn’t your color. Give me the hat. Give me the hat, or you will become a hat. Give it to me!“ –Cruella
Covered in hay and dirt, Cruella is getting outwitted and outsmarted by animals. After getting bamboozled by a racoon and then it stealing her hat, she commands it to take it off. She threatens the racoon to take it off or she will make it into a hat.
12. “I live for fur, I worship fur. After all, is there a woman in all this wretched world who doesn’t?” –Cruella
Anita asks Cruella if she is wearing a new fur coat, so Cruella goes on to brag about her love and lust for a ‘fancy’ coat. This gives us insight into who Cruella really is- a person who worships fashion and makes a statement. She cares only for herself and sees only joy in life from her clothing choice.
13. *Scary whisper* “Oh, yes! I love the smell of near extinction!” -Cruella
Cruella is lurking in the barn, searching for the dalmatian puppies. After attacking a hayble with a pitchfork attempting to shish-kabob one of the puppies and missing, she sees a tiny tail hanging out. As she walks over to it, stalking the little pup, she utters this horrifying statement.
14. “ Poor little things. I’m gonna cut you off, then cut you up!” -Cruella
Cruella opens the bar door and sees the puppies making their escape across the snowy countryside. She still believes that she will catch them and use them to make a coat. Even being harassed and attacked by wildlife and barn animals, Cruella is still cocky in her threats.
15. *Walking through a farmyard* “This is extraordinary. I am reduced to tramping through sewage! Because my two imbeciles can’t keep track of a bunch of infant dogs!” -Cruella
After Horace and Jasper loses the puppies, Cruella takes matters into her own hands and tries to find the puppies herself. She is complaining that she has to look for them in a gross place because her helpers could not do their job. This shows her desperation to get the puppies back, that she would go through desperate measures to get them back.
16. Frederick: “I thought we liked stripes this year.”
Cruella: “What kind of sycophant are you?”
Frederick: “Uh, what kind of sycophant would you like me to be?”
Cruella just discovered Anita’s fashion sketches using dalmatian spots. The three of them are in Cruella’s office, discussing how stripes could be ‘old fashion’ and dalmatian spots could be the next big thing.
Here she is criticizing Frederick, who is one of her assistants, for not seeing her vision and him jumping on board quickly to make her happy.
17. You… BEASTS! But I’m not beaten yet. You’ve won the battle, but I’m about to win the wardrobe. My spotty puppy coat is in plain sight and leaving tracks. In a moment I’ll have what I came for, while all of you will end up as sausage meat, alone on some sad, plastic plate. Dead and meaty and red. No friends, no family, no pulse. Just slapped between two buns, smothered in onions, with fries on the side. Cruella De Vil has the last laugh!” -Cruella
Cruella has just fallen into a tub of molasses and is beyond angry at this point. She is being attacked by many animals and is getting grosser and grosser with every step. Cruella is covered in stickiness, hay, dirt, and other barn nastiness.
This is another one of her brief threatening monologues, expressing what she wants to do to the puppies/other animals and how much harm she wants to cause them.
18. “Fifteen. Fifteen puppies! How marvelous! How marvelous! How perfectly, ugh! Oh, the devil take it, they’re mongrels! No spots! No spots at all! What a horrid little white rat!” -Cruella
Cruella barges in the home of Anita and Roger after Perdy has her puppies. She is over ecstatic at their birth, but is quickly angered that they have no spots.
She wants to turn them into a spotty puppy coat, but is furious that they are solid white. Anita has to explain to Cruella that Dalmatian puppies are born white and develop spots as they get older.
19. “Any way you want. Poison them, drown them, bash them on the head. Got any chloroform? I don’t care how you kill the little beasts, just do it, and do it now!” -Cruella
This is one of the most memorable Cruella de Vil quotes of all time! Cruella is on the phone, yelling at Jasper and Horace because she wants the puppies dead. Eager to get her hands on their fur, she wants them to kill the pups in anway. Cruella is not picky. All Cruella wants is their spotted coats.
20. “Why, you horrid man! You – you – All right, keep the little beasts for all I care!” -Cruella
Cruella is outraged that Anita and Roger won’t give her the puppies. She is mad and raises her voice with the couple. She ends up snapping at Roger and calling him names because she is not getting what she wants. It is a very child-like behavior.
21. “We can’t wait! The police are everywhere. I want the job done tonight!” -Cruella
Cruella is on the phone with Mr. Skinner. She knows the police are on the way and wants the capture of the Dalmatian puppies, so that she can use them for a coat. Cruella does not care how they are murdered, she just wants it done and done that very night.
22. Cruella: “Oh, well, in that case, I’ll take them all. The whole litter. Just name your price, dear.”
Anita: “I’m afraid we can’t give them up. Poor Perdita, she’d be heartbroken.”
Cruella: “Anita, don’t be ridiculous. You can’t possibly afford to keep them. You can scarcely afford to feed yourselves.”
Clearly money is no object to Cruella. When she sets her mind to something, she will stop at nothing to get it. Nothing will stand in her way, especially not something has fickle as money.
Here, Cruella is trying to buy the puppies off Roger and Anita and is not scared to pay the big bills. However, Roger and Anita won’t budge. They plan on keeping the puppies.
23. *Trying to write a check to buy the puppies* “Come now, I’m being more than generous. Blast this pen! Blast this wretched, wretched pen!” -Cruella
Being a classic Disney villain, Cruella desperately wants these 15 Dalmatian puppies and is offering a large sum of money to acquire them. Having a bad feeling, Anita and Roger turn down the money, but this only infuriates Cruella all the more. She keeps listing a higher price, in hopes of getting the puppies, but she does not succeed.
24. “Oh, no, you don’t! We’ll find the little mongrels if it takes till next Christmas. Now get going! And watch your driving, you imbeciles! Do you wanna get nabbed by the police?” -Cruella
As usual, Cruella is threatening her minions to hurry up and find the missing puppies. She is outraged that Jasper and Horace lost them, so she is screaming at them to do everything they can to get them back.
25. “Work your way south on the side roads. I’ll take the main road.” -Cruella
Divide and conquer! Cruella is splitting up her evil team to find the puppies. Desperate to get her hands on their fur, she is submitting herself to the search.
She has no faith in Jasper and Horace and honestly, she has no reason to believe they can handle it. They have been bamboozled by a bunch of dumb animals, according to this evil squad.
26. “Dognapping! Tsk, tsk, tsk. Can you imagine such a thing? Fifteen Puppies Stolen. They are darling little things. Anita and her…and her bashful Beethoven, pipe and all! Oh, Roger, you are a fool!” –Cruella
Cruella is reading a newspaper headline about the capture of the Dalmatian puppies. She is looking at the photos in the papers of the Radcliffs and is very sarcastic in her response. She is acting like it is a tragic event, when in fact, it is her own doing. Clearly, Cruella is proud of what she has done.
27. “Now, there are two things you must not do with Skinner. One, do not look at the horrendous scar on his neck. Two, don’t talk to him. Understand? Not a word.” – Jasper
Jasper and Horace are the henchman of Cruella de Vil and are incompetent twits in her eyes. On arriving to the preferred taxidermy of Cruella, Jasper warns Horace of Mr. Skinner.
Skinner was attacked by a dog in his vocal cords and lost his ability to talk. Now, he enjoys his days by killing animals and skinning them for a profit. He is the one that killed the white tiger from the London Zoo, so he has no problem killing any animal at any age.
28. Jasper: “Aw, please, Miss. Have pity, will you? Can’t we see the rest of the show first?”
Cruella: “Now listen, you idiots! I’ll be back first thing in the morning. And the job better be done or I’ll-I’ll-I’ll call the police! Do you understand? “
Horace: “I think she means it, Jasper.”
Cruella is mad at her henchmen for being lazy. She yanks Jasper’s bottle so Jasper coughs. Then, she slaps them both in the face. After Cruella’s threat, she slams the door and a piece of plaster falls and hits Horace on the head.
Fans will remember that Horace’s head takes lots of attacks throughout the film.
29. “Make that 101 Dalmatians sir.” – Police Officer
After counting the dogs and looking into the sea of spots, the officers track 100 Dalmatian puppies. However, Lucky makes a return after being left behind at the barn.
Being amazed by the vast number of cute little babies, the officers were shocked to see yet another one. Audiences everywhere are ecstatic to see that the beloved pup, Lucky, is okay and reunites with his family.
30. “Excellent villain mate.” -Alonzo
The dogcatcher did not amuse Alonzo, the kid testing video games. He shot down Roger’s idea, but as soon as he played the new one with Cruella as the villain, he loved it. He loved having her as the villain for the puppies instead of a stereotypical dogcatcher.
31. “I don’t think he wanted to do that.” – Woman on the Park Bench
Yelling Pongo’s name, Roger was at the mercy of a lovestruck puppy dragging him across the park on his bike. He was going so fast, Roger hit air and flew into the lake. As this happened, an old lady with her friend, made this sassy and unforgettable comment.
32. “ Crazy woman driver. ” – Truck Driver
If I was the truck driver, I would blast my car horn. In a fiery fit, Cruella speeds down the road to retrieve the puppies. She nearly ran a truck driver off the road, causing him to yell at her to get her to stop.
33. Rolly: “I’m hungry, Mother. I’m hungry.”
Perdita: “Now Rolly, you’ve just had your dinner.”
Rolly: “But I am, just the same. I’m so hungry I could eat w whole elephant.”
Here is just a sweet and sincere interaction between one of the little dalmatian pumps and Perdita. Is Rolly dramatic? Yes. Is it something any child would say? Also yes.
34. “It was a beautiful spring day. Tedious time of the year for bachelors.” – Pongo
This is the opening line to the cartoon, and it is one of the most iconic ones. The movie opens up with Pongo gazing out the window, introducing himself and ‘his pet’, Roger.
35. Roger: *singing* “Ti tum ti ta ti, ta tum ti ta tum.”
Roger: “Do you like my new song?”
Anita: “Ta tum ti ta tum. Such clever lyrics.”
Roger: “Melody first, my dear, and then the lyrics.”

In the original cartoon, Roger was a musician, not a videogame designer. This was a major change in the adaptation, but deserves to be mentioned because it was an huge part of the OG storyline. Roger’s songs eventually lead to the up being the iconic “Cruella de Vil” song that is known by so many.
36. Lucy: “Towser, what’s going on? What is it? What’s all the gossip?”
Towser: “‘Taint no gossip, Lucy. It be all the way from London.”
Lucy: “You don’t say.”
Towser: “Fifteen puppies stolen.”
Lucy: “There’s no puppies around here, not since Nellie’s last litter and they all are grown.”
Towser: “Well, then we’d best send the word along. It be up to me to reach the Colonel! He be the only one in barking range.”
Lucy: “You’ll never reach him at this hour.”
Towser: “Well I can try! I’ll bark all night if I have to.”
These sweet animals hear about puppies that were stolen and are quick to help. They begin planning and trying to connect with each other in order to save these babies from the hands of Cruella. Though there is no dialogue in the live action, this beautiful interaction in the cartoon is genuine and adorable.
37. Cruella: [over the phone] “Oh, Anita, what a dreadful day. I just saw the papers. I couldn’t believe it.”
Anita: “Yes, Cruella, it was quite a shock.”
Roger: “What does she want? Is she calling to confess?”
Anita: “Roger, please!”
Roger: “Oh, she’s a sly one, she is!”
Here we see Roger getting very suspicious of Cruella and can see right through her. He instinctively knows that Cruella had something to do with the dognapping. Anita is unsure, but Roger is sold. He despises her a great deal.
38. Patch: “That old Dirty Dawson! The yellow livered old skunk! I’d like to tear his gizzard out.”
Perdita: “Why, Patch, where did you ever hear such talk? Certainly not from your mother!”
Patch is one of the pups that belongs to Perdy and Pongo. Though the live action does not have talking animals, Patch is still a key character in the movie. In the cartoon, this little puppy is sassy and clearly dislikes Cruella. Perdita is appalled by the choice of words, but Patch does not hold back.
39. Jasper: “You couldn’t get half a dozen coats out of the whole kaboodle.”
Sergeant Tibs: *whispering* “Coats? Dog skin coats?”
Cruella De Vil: “Then we’ll settle for half a dozen!”
In the cartoon, Sergeant Tibbs overhears Jasper, Horace, and Cruella planning to use the puppies to make fur coats. It is a good thing that he heard this because he was able to help the dogs know what the evil people were plotting.
40. Cruella: “Hello? Jasper! Jasper, you idiot! How dare you call here?”
Jasper: “Look, we don’t want no more of this ‘ere. We want our boodle. [as Horace tries to get his attention] We’ll settle for half!”
Cruella: “Not one schilling till the job’s done. Understand?”
Horace: “Jasper!” [shows him the morning newspaper]
Jasper: “It’s right here in the blinkin’ papers, pictures and all!”
Cruella: “Hang the papers! It’ll be forgotten tomorrow.”
Horace: “I don’t like it, Jasper. I don’t-“
Jasper: “Ah, shaddup, you idiot!”
Cruella: “WHAT?!”
Jasper: “No, no, not you, miss. I mean Horace here!”
Cruella: :Why, you imbecile!” [slams down the phone]
It is easy to tell that Jasper and Horace are at the mercy of Cruella. They are trapped and owned by this devil woman. When things got bad, they tried to get out of this evil thing, but she would not let them. She has complete control over these henchman.
