Well sometimes it’s hard to reinvent yourself when you have a closet full of old, unstylish clothes that are weighing you down.  Cleaning out your closet can be a challenging and dreadful task, but don’t fear because today I’m sharing 5 tips to help you clean out your closet for the new year!

Get Rid of Things that Haven’t Been Worn Within the Last Year

If it’s been a year since you’ve worn a certain piece of clothing then it’s definitely time to get rid of it.  It’s not doing you any good just sitting in your closet collecting dust, and if it’s truly been a year since it’s last been used then it’s probably out of style anyway.

Donate Clothes that Don’t Fit Anymore

When your closet is overflowing with things that don’t fit you, where will you put all the clothes that do?  If something doesn’t fit then there’s really no point in keeping it.  Even if this particular piece of clothing has special memories tied up in it or it’s your favorite thing you own, it’s important to donate or trash it. Make sure to try things on if you’re uncertain of whether or not they fit.

For Every Item that you Bought or Received During the Holidays, Get Rid of Two Items you Already Own

This tip is helpful for making sure that you have enough room for all the clothes that you bought and received during the holidays.  If you’re having trouble with deciding which things to get rid of, try researching trends for the new year and get rid of things that aren’t in style anymore.

Don’t Keep Stained Things

Pieces of clothes that are stained aren’t things that you should go into the new year with.  Stains have the ability to cheapen any outfit and it’s important to start the new year correctly with clean and tidy clothes.

Get Rid of Worn and Uncomfortable Shoes

It can be hard to get rid of shoes, but if they’re uncomfortable and probably won’t be won’t be used much in the future, just donate or trash them.  Additionally, if the shoes are beaten-up make sure to get rid of those as well.  It’s a good idea to make room for all the cute new shoes that you’ll get throughout the new year.

Hopefully these tips will help you get started off on the right foot for the new year! Have a great New Year’s Eve and happy cleaning!
