The American Youth Sports Pledge from The National Endowment for Youth Sports (NEYS)
If one of your resolutions is to give back this coming year, I’ve got the perfect way for you to do so! The National Endowment for Youth Sports (NEYS) is a United States Congressionally Chartered nonprofit focused on making sports accessible for all youth in America including girls, children with disabilities and children in economically distressed regions of the country.
As a former first grade teacher, I know the importance of youth sports participation. The regular activity with playing sports builds life skills such as leadership, resilience, teamwork and civic engagement. The mission of the NEYS is to raise more than $100 million to provide annual and ongoing grants for permanent and accessible youth sports programs throughout the country. The positive benefits in both health and fitness that young children get from playing sports are huge. However, many Americans, including the nearly 13 million children living in poverty, don’t have the opportunity to participate.
As part of my 2020 Resolutions, I am taking the American Youth Sports Pledge to help NEYS spread the word and hope you will too. I am taking this pledge because I want all children to get the chance to build their self-esteem, enhance their creativity and have an overall better well being through participating in sports. As I mentioned before, the former educator in me loves that those who participate in sports are significantly more likely to graduate from high school and attend college.
