7 Enchanting Beauty and the Beast Quotes

In 1991 Disney released their 30th animated feature film. With a screenplay by Linda Woolverton, directed by Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale, Beauty and the Beast quickly captured the hearts of millions around the world. Today, we’re taking a look at some of the best moments from the movie. Ones that warmed our hearts and taught us life lessons, these are the quotes that we can recite by heart.

Here are 7 Enchanting Beauty and the Beast Quotes.

“She warned him not to be deceived by appearances, for beauty is found within.”

We love this Beauty and the Beast quote because of how straightforward it is. The narrator tells us quite simply at the start of the movie: beauty is found on the inside. This is a lesson we could all do to remember from time to time; not to judge anyone on what we see at first sight, but rather who we are.

“Think of the one thing that you’ve always wanted. Now find it in your mind’s eye and feel it in your heart.”

Here we have a classic example of the Beast working his way into our heart. Sometimes the key to finding your heart’s desire is to figure out what exactly it is that you want. Oftentimes we as humans (or beasts) struggle to decide what we really want in life. The real journey is taking a look inside and discovering what exactly our heart is telling us.

“True, that he’s no Prince Charming but there’s something in him that I simply didn’t see.”

Belle, ever the voice of reason. The older we get, the more life experience we acquire, the more we come to understand that sometimes the stereotypical prince isn’t our dream after all. With time comes experience, and with experience comes wisdom. Eventually we realize sometimes our perfect prince was never royalty at all.

“Beast: I let her go…
Cogsworth: What? But why?
Beast: Because I love her…”

Sometimes it isn’t just age that brings wisdom, but experience. The Beast has been through a lot in his life, and by now has matured enough to understand that you can’t force someone into happiness. We love this moment because it shows just how far the Beast has come, by letting Belle go even if it means his own heartbreak.

“You don’t have time to be timid. You must be bold and daring.”

It’s true that in this moment Lumiere is speaking literally: the Beast doesn’t have any time to spare before the last petal falls and they all remain stuck in their alternate forms forever. But the message can be applied generally as well. Life is short, and we must not be afraid to take chances and go for what we want.

“I want much more than this provincial life.”

In the movie’s opening song, Belle speaks to us all. We can all relate to wanting more out of life. What we admire so much about Belle is that she goes for it and refuses to accept anything less than what she truly desires, ignoring those who try to talk her down or demean her along the way.

“You don’t lose hope, love. If you do, you lose everything.”

We’ve saved one of the best for last. Mrs. Potts, ever the voice of wisdom, speaks to us all in this moment. In life, there are a lot of ups and downs. But we cannot lose hope, as it is the one thing that we never run out of and always inspires us to keep going. And there really is nothing better than that.
