8 Best Food Challenges from Across the Country That You Might Conquer
America has earned the title of being one of the best countries in the world for food! Of course, that’s not enough for all of us. That’s why the invention of food challenges happened! Any foodie knows that there are some crazy things in the food world from rainbow bagels to random fusions that probably shouldn’t have ever happened. Of course, food challenges are one of the craziest, funniest, and yummiest things to have been invented!
If you want to try a food challenge for yourself on your next vacation, here’s a list of eight food challenges from various parts of the country!
LUCKY’S SANDWICH CO. CHALLENGE (CHICAGO, IL)
You at least get some control over this challenge! You have to pick three sandwiches from their menu to eat within one hour. Sounds easy, but it’s not! These sandwiches are huge! You get to pick from a various amount of sandwich types such as corned beef, Cajun chicken, and salami pastrami. No bathroom breaks and no throwing up! Winners get a t-shirt (plus the meal is free)!
SPRING AND SPROUT PHO CHALLENGE (WASHINGTON D.C.)
The goal of this challenge is to consume a giant bowl of pho under just one hour all by yourself! No bathroom breaks are allowed (which is unfortunate because pho is a Vietnamese soup that’s base is a delicious broth… so that’s a lot of broth). This pho consists of two pounds of noodles, almost four quarts of broth, and two pounds of brisket. Not to mention an entire pound of bean sprouts! Winners receive to be recognized on a permanent plaque that’s in the restaurant!
SAN FRANCISCO CREAMERY CO. “THE KITCHEN SINK” CHALLENGE (WALNUT CREEK, CA)
Everybody loves ice cream… but maybe not after this challenge! What’s up for grabs is amazing though: free ice cream for a year! All you have to do is eat a sundae that has three bananas, eight scoops of ice cream, and all the fixings! The catch is that just finishing it doesn’t matter. If you want free ice cream for a year, you have to beat the current champion. Yikes!
BRICK LANE CURRY HOUSE PHAAL CHALLENGE (NEW YORK CITY)
This challenge isn’t about how much you can eat per se, but it’s more about how much you can handle! Eat a bowl of curry with some of the hottest chilies on the planet to win. This challenge is so intense that they make you give them a verbal disclaimer that they are not to be blamed for any type of emotional or physical damages! So, if you go into a depression or burn your tongue off due to this challenge, they aren’t responsible. Winners get to be recognized as a winner by the restaurant.
THE DOUGHMAN (DURHAM, NC)
This challenge is absolutely insane! It’s like a triathlon mixed with an eating competition. Contestants run, swim, and bike around the city while making stops to competitive eat and drink. Winners get a trophy and bragging rights! If you want to partake, the next competition is on May 27th!
ACME OYSTER HOUSE 15 DOZEN CLUB (NEW ORLEANS, LA)
A pretty self-explanatory challenge, you have to consume fifteen dozen oysters within one hour. That’s one hundred and eighty oysters! Slurp them down or use your fork, it doesn’t matter! The goal is to just get it all down within sixty minutes. If you win, you get a free t-shirt and half off the oysters (you still have to pay). Break the record, your oysters are free. Unfortunately, the current record is forty-four dozen oysters (five hundred and twenty-eight oysters)!
SUPERB SUSHI DEMON’S DELIGHT CHALLENGE (BOISE, ID)
This challenge consists of levels you have to complete. Called “Miso Soup from Hell,” the first challenge consists of eating an entire bowl of something crazy that includes wasabi powder, habanero peppers, and cayenne pepper. Then, you have to eat one of the spiciest rolls, along with something called “death sauce”. Yikes! There’s also a side challenge that you can choose to complete that consists of a stuff made with ghost peppers which are the spiciest peppers known to man! I love spicy food myself, but this seems impossible! Winners get a t-shirt.
BIG PIE IN THE SKY PIZZERIA CARNIVORE CHALLENGE (KENNESAW, GA)
Eat an eleven-pound pizza to win $250! To do this, you must complete the challenge within an hour. You have to schedule your challenge time so they are able to put together the pizza. Entrants must pay $50… because it is an eleven-pound pizza with a bunch of meat toppings on it. The good news is that you can do this in a team, rather than just by yourself!
Food challenges are a crazy thing. But if you’re up for it, it can be a bunch of delicious fun!
