If you are like me, you have trouble staying organized. I tend to use a planner for a week and then forget to put my tasks and events in it. Or I’m stuck buying a new one every year. One thing that I like with DIY projects, is the creativity and freedom I get with making it. With this, I am saving money and getting an item that is personalized just for me. So, I made a dry erase calendar to help with my organization, and save paper, and money.

What You Will Need

• 35-42 (7 sets of 5 colors or 5 sets of 7 colors) Paint Swatches
• 12×16 Picture Frame (or larger)
• Double Sided Tape
• Scissors
• Ruler
• Dry erase marker
• Pencil
• Colored Paper (Optional, for background)

You can grab the paint swatches for free at most home improvement stores, and here’s where you can get everything else you might need!

Step 1

After I gathered my materials, I started by figuring out what size I needed all of my paint swatches to be. I took some old note cards that I had and started cutting them into squares. After a few attempts, I came to the conclusion that 2×2, or a little smaller size, works best for the 12×16 frame. If you get a bigger frame, this 2×2 size could leave you more room for a notes section or more space between the other swatches.

Step 2

This next part is the most lengthy part of creating the whole calendar, cutting all of the paint swatches to be the same size. After I had the right size with my notecard, I used that one as a stencil to cut the others. If you choose to use the 2×2 size for your swatches, cut one and then use it for the others. That will make the process go faster.

Step 3

You will need to take the frame apart from the back and the glass. Set the frame and glass aside from the back. If you are choosing to add a background color, tape the background onto the board with your double-sided tape. After all of the swatches are cut, you can organize and arrange them onto the board you have, either over the colorful background or on the board itself. I arranged the swathes before I taped them to eliminate errors and make sure that everything fit and looked good.

Step 4

Now you’re ready to start taping. If everything looked good when you laid them down, start taping from the bottom corner and tape upward and over to the other side.

Step 5

I had the pink swatches leftover because I wanted to use those for the days of the week at the top of the board. I cut a small section from them and taped them above the purple.

Step 6

YOU’RE FINISHED!! All that is left to do is put the glass and frame back onto the board. Grab your favorite colored dry-erase marker and add the month, days of the week, and the days.
