“A Fantastic Woman” Movie Review

A Fantastic Woman is now playing in select theaters!  From the producers of Jackie and Spotlight comes a refreshing new film about love and its hardships.  The story follows a transgender woman named Marina (Daniela Vega).  Marina faces scrutiny for this and for dating Orlando (Francisco Reyes Morandé), a much older man.  After his tragic death, the aspiring singer must bear the burden of saying goodbye to him while struggling with judgement and dealing with the extremely specific requests from Orlando’s family and ex-wife.  The movie portrays Marina’s uphill battle relating to the discrimination of transgender people. This is a truly incredible film and I would highly recommend that you all see it.

This Chilean film is one worth seeing as quickly as possible.  Daniela Vega is truly amazing and her raw emotion is spectacular.  She carries this film with talent and grace and her co-stars are fantastic as well.  The hate and critical examination towards Marina is truly heartbreaking yet eye-opening.  The story keeps you guessing as to what horrible challenge Marina will face next. She goes through some truly awful confrontations that will rip your heart out.  Marina is an incredibly strong woman. A Fantastic Woman has won an Academy Award, a Fénix Award, an Independent Spirit Award and has received many other notable awards and recognitions.  It’s apparent that this film will has touched the lives of many and will continue to influence people for a very long time to come.
