American Flag Fruit Skewers

Every year, I look for quick and healthy snacks that still feel festive for our 4th of July celebration.

A woman stands in a kitchen holding a tray of fruit skewers arranged in a pattern resembling the American flag, made with strawberries, bananas, and blueberries.

These American Flag Fruit Skewers are one of my favorites, they’re fresh, fun to assemble, and always a hit with guests of all ages.

Plus, they make for the cutest patriotic display on your table.

Ingredients

Sliced strawberries, blueberries, and banana pieces in bowls on a counter next to wooden skewers and a small cutting board labeled "Sarah Scoop.

How to Make Them

Step 1: Prep the Fruit
Start by washing your strawberries and blueberries. Cut the strawberries in half and slice the bananas into chunky pieces, about 1 to 1.5 inches thick.

Step 2: Assemble the “Stripe” Skewers
Take 3 of the skewers and thread them in this order:

Step 4: Arrange on Your Board
Place the 4 blueberry-topped skewers in the top left corner of your cutting board or platter. Line up the other 3 skewers beside them to complete the flag look. The red, white, and blue color scheme really pops once it’s all laid out.

Tips

  • Use ripe but firm fruit so it stays on the skewers without falling apart.
  • Brush the bananas with a little lemon juice to help prevent browning if you’re making these ahead of time.

  • Try alternating the fruit slightly if you want a more unique twist, or add a mini marshmallow in place of a banana for a fun treat.
