American Flag Hot Dog Board
When it comes to Fourth of July gatherings, I’m all about easy crowd-pleasers and this American Flag Hot Dog Board is always a hit.
It’s simple to put together, super festive, and perfect for a casual cookout or family celebration.
Plus, who can resist a good hot dog with a patriotic twist?
Ingredients
- 10 hot dogs
- 10 hot dog buns
- Ketchup
- 1 red platter
- 1 blue star-shaped bowl
- 1 cup blue tortilla chips
- 3–4 slices of cheddar cheese
- Star-shaped cutter
How to Make It
1. Cook the Hot Dogs
I usually grill or boil the hot dogs, whatever’s easiest. You want them fully cooked and warm when assembling the board.
2. Prep the Buns
Open each of the 10 hot dog buns and get them ready on a clean surface.
3. Assemble the Hot Dogs
Place one hot dog in each bun and drizzle ketchup across the top. If some of your guests prefer mustard or no sauce at all, you can always leave a few plain.
4. Build the Flag Design
Now comes the fun part! Arrange the hot dogs in neat rows on your red platter to form the stripes of the flag.
5. Add the “Stars” Section
Place your blue star-shaped bowl in the upper left corner of the platter. Fill it with blue tortilla chips to mimic the stars section of the flag.
6. Top with Cheese Stars
Using a star-shaped cutter, slice your cheddar cheese into stars and gently place them on top of the chips for a cute finishing touch.
Tips
- Cheese options: I’ve also used white cheese like mozzarella for contrast—feel free to mix and match!
- Keep it warm: If you’re prepping ahead of time, you can keep the hot dogs warm in a slow cooker until ready to serve.
- Add extras: Set out extra condiments or fun toppings like chopped onions, relish, or mustard for guests to customize.
