“Ant-Man And the Wasp” Spoiler Free Movie Review

Alright, Marvel fans,  Avengers: Infinity War was pretty intense. It’s time for a pick-me-up with Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and The Wasp! I  had the chance to go to LA to screen Ant-Man and the Wasp and I am so happy to say I loved it!

Let’s start with the timeline. In Ant-Man and The Wasp, Infinity War hasn’t even happened yet. The movie picks up after Captain America: Civil War, which means our beloved Ant-Man is under house arrest after violating the Sokovia Accords. Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) happily aligned himself with Captain America during the fight.

Now that he’s faced major punishment, he’s starting to rethink a few things. Scott isn’t sure what his future looks like as Ant-Man. He wants what’s best for his daughter Cassie, and he wants to stay out of too much trouble. Where does he go from here?

Cassie thinks her dad needs a partner to watch his back. The Wasp is perfect for the job. In the movie, Dr. Pym and his daughter Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) come to Scott with a mission. Pym needs Ant-Man to team up with Hope AKA The Wasp. Together, they’re going to discover secrets from their past and take on anyone who tries to stop them.

Well, I won’t give away too much so I will say you have to go see it for yourself.  I will say though there are a few reasons you’ll want to watch the movie!

Paul Rudd Is Ant-Man

Hollywood is full of talents and in 20 years in the cinema business, Rudd has never failed to amuse us to demonstrate his capacity to adapt to every role he was given.

Between his wonderful performances as a big brother in Clueless to his stuck-up energy drink salesman role in Role Models, Rudd may just be at the top of his game right now.

Mostly known for playing humorist roles, seeing him in “Ant-Man and the Wasp” Rudd manages to combine “enjoyment with seriousness.”

The Special Effects Will Amaze You

In order to make the movie as realistic as possible and get the best close-up textures of each object in the scene, Peyton Reed and his team used special cameras on set, and it just happened to be breathtaking!  (Read my on-set experience for behind the scene details).

There are shrinking builds, cars are flying, they go big, they go small… It ultimately gives the viewer a feeling of being part of the action and transported into an entirely different world.

In one word: outstanding.

Brilliant Cast

Paul Rudd is Ant-Man. The superhero, the dad, the humor, everything about his role is perfect.  Evangeline Lilly’s powerful female role as the Wasp makes every little girl or woman want to stand up and be a superhero too.

With other amazing performances from Michael Douglas (Dr. Hank Pym) to Laurence Fishburne (Bill Foster) to Michelle Pfeiffer (Janet van Dyne) to Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost) to tiny and cute Abby Ryder Fortson (Cassie), the movie is full of surprises, excitements AND great talents.

Everyone Will Enjoy It – Fun for All Ages

Asides from being tremendously captivating, “Ant-Man and the Wasp” may be Marvel’s funniest movie.

Between the continuous visual laughs and the various jokes, you will keep the laughs and focus the entire film.  Engaging, Funny and altogether relevant to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, watching “Ant-Man and the Wasp” is probably going to end up making you want to read the comics!

This is truly one to take the whole family to see!

Women Empowerment

“To see a woman’s name in a title in Hollywood is a very unique experience and I think it is happening more and more, but it is a far cry from where it should be.” – Evangeline Lilly

That’s right ladies, we have a female superhero in the title of this one! The Wasp, played by Evangeline Lilly is the perfect balance to Ant-Man. Hope, Evangeline’s character, is focused, determined and will have all woman watching feeling empowered. Her role is motivating and encouraging to all of us who ever dreamed of being superheroes.

Marvel’s first attempt at a front-lining female superhero is an overwhelming success, and fans will be eager to see how “Captain Marvel” builds upon that foundation.

The Ending

The team has done a wonderful job revealing just enough information to make us want to go watch the movie, but still be surprised by the number of things happening. And surprised you will be.

As usual with a Marvel movie, you HAVE to stay for the post-credit scene. The shocking scene will reveal Ant-Man’s next obstacle to overcome. I won’t share the details, but all I can say is WOW.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP will fly into theaters everywhere on July 6th!
