Best Tips for Successful Online Dating with Plenty of Fish

This post is sponsored by PlentyOfFish®. All of the text and opinions are my own.

As someone who is always on the go, dating often gets overlooked. I know it is time for a change and to refocus on finding my Mr. Wonderful. I have so many friends who have met and found their special someones online that I decide it was time to give it a go.  Dating is tough and with technology now it just seems like getting online is the thing to do. Just when I thought all the good ones were caught, I decide to start looking on Plenty of Fish.

You all know the popular saying “there are plenty of fish in the sea” right? Well, it turns out that it is actually true. Dating and meeting people has been extremely difficult for me with my busy schedule. Plenty of Fish makes it easy to see who else is out there looking for ‘the one’.

About Plenty of Fish

I decided to go with Plenty of Fish (POF) to begin my search for love, it is one of the largest global online dating companies, with 150 million registered users. I think my chances of finding Mr. Wonderful are pretty high with those numbers.  Also, I have so many friends who met their matches on POF. After playing maid of honor at my good friends wedding and giving a great speech all about taking chances and putting yourself out there to let their hearts meet I decided it was time to take my own advice.  So I started looking into which dating site I should try and saw all of the benefits of Plenty of Fish.

Personally, I really appreciated the fact that they have an app.  I’m always on the go so I like that I can spend a few free minutes searching for my hopefully future husband whenever I have a few minutes. Plus, it’s the second most downloaded dating app in the U.S.  I downloaded the app and what I liked it about it was the fact that it actually asked me questions about myself, what I was looking for in a partner, etc. You’re not just swiping on anyone in your zip code, these matches are people you can already narrow down a connection with.

For my non-US readers, don’t you worry POF is available in 11 languages and more than 20 countries and has more conversations than any other dating app, with 2.5 million happening every day. Unlike any dating offering today, singles have more quality conversations on POF, which can lead to stronger connections, smarter matches and better dates.

As we get older it seems like dating gets a little more difficult.  I guess when you’re looking for someone to spend forever with it gets a little more complicated. Plenty of Fish also has a blog where you can go check out videos, surveys and stories about love, advice and so much more. The blog is known for “sparking conversations on trends in dating, relationships and love.” So basically it is here to help any of us who have been out of the game for a bit.

Conversation Starters

I bet you didn’t know that the first conversation with a person can actually make or break a potential relationship.  Neither did I, but thanks to the blog I learned all about it. I have lots of friends who always give at least 2-3 dates so I just assumed that is how most people do it. That first conversation can really mean more than I ever thought about. Did you know 60% of singles believe you can fall in love during the first conversation? While first conversations can be extremely nerve-wracking, here are some of my icebreaker tips to help you on your dating adventures. We all need to get back to the point where dating is fun and, with the right people it is so much fun.  Here are a few tips to help you along the way:

Use Humor

There is nothing I enjoy more than a good laugh.  No matter whether it is a funny comment about their profile or a cheesy joke, people often connect through a common sense of humor. Also, who wouldn’t want to make their potential significant other laugh?

Compliment Them

You can never go wrong with a compliment. Seriously, think about it.  When someone compliments you in any setting you just naturally have a liking for them.  Maybe you just made their day and most likely, you will get a compliment back so it’s a win win.

Ask Questions

Whether it’s finding out their favorite candy or asking them one personality trait that gets them in trouble, they will most likely respond to a question because let’s face it, everyone likes to talk about themselves.  Have some go to questions, ask about their job, something they mentioned in their profiles, their friends…take the time to ask meaningful questions that show you are interested in something real.

Dating Tips and Tricks

First dates can be awkward. I’ve been on my fair share of not so great first dates and honestly they probably would not have been so awkward if I was prepared and went in with a more open mind and heart. Everyone I know has been on a date they wished they could redo, well no more regretting those uncomfortable moments. Here are some first date hacks that are sure to make the first date a success.

Pick a Low-Key Location

Take the stress off of yourself and your date, pick a place that you can let the convo flow. Meeting for drinks is a perfect option that allows you to meet and if things are going great you can add dinner.  According to a Plenty of Fish survey, 78% of singles prefer dates that nurture quality conversation, such as dinner, coffee or drinks vs. an activity such as a movie or concert. You really get to know someone better when you have that one on one conversation.

Wear a Comfortable Outfit

Pick something that you can wear in multiple situations and make that you go to date outfit.  I am not even kidding when I tell you I use to wear the same thing on every first date I went on.  It was easy and I didn’t have to stress over what to wear. When you feel comfortable and confident, the conversation is sure to run smoothly.

Be Yourself

This is the most important tip that I have learned throughout my years of dating. If you are being completely authentic to who you are, the person is bound to respect that. If they don’t, then they don’t deserve you.  Plus, you don’t want to be with the wrong person. If nothing else it was just an experience preparing your for your one and only!

Stay tuned for my online dating adventures.  Will you be joining me on Plenty of Fish? I have already had a few matches and am planning dates for when I get back in town. Mr. Right has to be out there somewhere so maybe he’s swimming through POF.  Now, I’m ready for your to give me the scoop on some of your online dating experiences and your last meaningful dating conversation. What did you talk about? Where did it lead? Let me know in the comments!
