Bridgerton Actress Reveals Shocking Easter Egg

Netflix’s period-drama Bridgerton has something for everyone. From romance to betrayal and lots of beautiful gowns in between, this show draws fans of all kinds.

While fans of Bridgerton are waiting for season 2, they are rewatching the first season to enjoy their favorite scenes and maybe spot Easter eggs they missed before. The first season ended with a shocking reveal that lead many fans to look for clues in earlier episodes.

Nicola Coughlan Asks Fans

In the final episode of season 1, Bridgerton fans learn that Penelope Featherington is the famous Lady Whistledown!

So, on Saturday February 20th, Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, went on Twitter asking fans, “Ok I’m just curious, has anyone spotted the massive Easter Egg about Penelope in the very first scene of Bridgerton?”

While fans were guessing things like the bee or the fact that we first see the Featherington’s house, one fan got it right. The follower asked, “The quill?” to which Coughlan replied, “Ding Ding Ding!”

What’s The Easter Egg Mean?

Nicola Coughlan also quote tweeted that correct answer saying, “When I filmed Penelope’s first scene I chose a prop, a massive massive feather that looked a lot like… ‘The quill.'”

This detail is significant because Penelope is shown holding a feather quill, which is a cute nod to her alias Lady Featherington. It may also reflect that Lady Whistledown gains popularity for her writing.

What’s Next For Bridgerton?

Thankfully, Bridgerton is getting a second season. So what is next for Penelope Featherington or Lady Whistledown? Fans are curious to find out!

Before the show was renewed, Nicola Coughlan spoke to Variety in December 2020. Talking about Bridgerton getting a second season, she said, “It’s a real joy to make and the response has been beyond our wildest dreams. But until the Netflix gods come down and bless us, we don’t know.”
