Therefore CBD Dogs are important to take a look at if you want to assist your dog. So let’s learn more about arthritis.
What is arthritis in dogs?
Osteoarthritis in dogs is similar to that in humans. It results in joint inflammation due to the wear and tear of cartilage which usually acts as a cushion in the joints. The movement then becomes particularly painful for the dog who has difficulty moving. Unfortunately, worn cartilage cannot be replaced and pain is inevitable. In addition, joint problems mainly occur in targeted areas such as the knee, hip, ankle, shoulder, or even the backbone. Even if the two pathologies belong to the rheumatism family, do not confuse arthritis and osteoarthritis. Arthritis gradually destroys the joint while osteoarthritis is a “mechanical disease”. Arthritis therefore causes pain in the dog even when immobile, while osteoarthritis is only felt when it is moving.
90% of older dogs develop some form of rheumatism over time, be it arthritis or canine osteoarthritis. However, younger dogs can also develop either of these conditions. Here are the main reasons:
- Overweight: Osteoarthritis or arthritis, an overweight or obese dog is more easily prone to joint pain.
- Traumatic Injury or Health Problems: Some accidents or infections can damage cartilage and cause severe joint pain.
- Growth Disorder: Certain breeds of dogs such as Labradors, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds or Rottweilers are predisposed to abnormal degradation of the cartilage.
- Birth defect: A birth defect can lead to joint problems later.
Symptoms of arthritis
There are different signs that can alert the owner of a dog with osteoarthritis. The symptoms are then identified as follows:
- Loss of energy, interest, reduced movement
- Depression or aggression
- Severe fatigue after exercise
- Resistance to perform a movement
- Rigidity of limbs

They will indeed carry out a series of medical, orthopedic and neurological examinations as well as a series of imaging tests (radio, CT or MRI) and blood tests.
CBD, an effective solution?
Cornell University researchers have recently concluded a study on the effects of CBD on dogs suffering from joint pain. During the six-week double-test study, the dogs were given either CBD or a placebo twice a day. The dogs that took the CBD then showed a marked improvement and the vets saw a decrease in pain as well as an increase in activity . Best of all, the owners did not report any side effects in dogs that took CBD. Great news for owners whose dogs suffer from joint pain. Until now, most owners have indeed resorted to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to relieve their dogs of joint pain. CBD can in fact help a great deal.
