Cat Lovers Guide: Everything You Need Available at Target!

Owning a cat is one of the best things on the planet. They are intelligent, independent and affectionate fluff balls. Being a cat owner has been a rewarding experience. My cat, Maxwell (pictured below), is a great companion! He loves to hang out on the couch, cuddle in my lap while purring away and he enjoys a quick toss of his mouse toy. That being said, as a pet, he does need a few products to maintain a happy, healthy lifestyle. I don’t have to worry though, because I can find all the items I need at Target. I have created a cat owners guide to help my fellow feline owners thrive and shop through Target to find everything you need!

TIDY CATS® Free and Clean™ LightWeight Clumping Litter Unscented

Target has a plethora of cat litters but Purina® TIDY CATS Free and Clean is my go-to. They have multiple sizes and several different kinds of litter. My favorite kind is the clean and unscented clumping cat litter. I like to buy the 8.5-pound container because it is small and easy to store in my house. However, you can get 35-pound pail if you choose! The clumping cat litter is GREAT. It is fragrance and dye free and uses activated charcoal to clump together the kitty litter. That way, it is easier to scoop once you need to change it out. Awesome, right? No mess makes for an easy clean. Also, my house doesn’t smell like a cat box, which is another great benefit of this fragrance-free kitty litter. Definitely try the new Tidy Cats Free & Clean Unscented Cat litter at Target! You and your cat will be happy.

Litter Box Scoop

While we are on the subject of kitty litter, another item that will make your life easier is a litter box scoop. Trust me, I tried not owning one for a while and it just doesn’t go as well… You can try pouring out the litter, grabbing with your hands or changing the whole bag, but a scoop is your best option. Target has several options to choose from. I have a basic scoop, but there are multiple styles and colors ;). I suggest getting a mini trashcan to put next to the litter box and once the trashcan is full, you dump the whole thing. That way, you’ve created a system, and you don’t have to walk through the house to the trashcan, balancing the kitty clumps on the scoop!

Cat Box Liners

Another great product that Target sells is cat litter box liners. If you haven’t tried these, you are missing out! These liners fit most cat litter boxes and have a drawstring so changing the cat litter is neat and easy. They are also unscented, so you won’t have the mix of cat waste, cat litter or box liners to create a funky smell throughout your house. It works similarly to a trashcan liner, and you can change it whenever you feel necessary. Just line the box, pour the Tidy Cats litter and your cat is on his or her way to happily using the bathroom.

Purina® Fancy Feast Classic Plate

Shopping at Target is so easy because the shelves are always stocked to the tens, including their cat food department. The Purina section of the cat food aisle is organized and is easy to find exactly what you’re looking for. When I go to Target, I typically am looking for the boxes of cat food that are the Purina Classic Plate wet cat foods. They are jampacked with 100% nutrition and perfect for cats of all ages. The Purina Classic Plates are wet cat food and finely ground to create a smooth pate for your cat. It is the perfect cat food for any and all cats! Another great thing about the Classic Plate is that it comes in multiple flavors, with 24 cans so you will be stocked for a while.

Purina Dry Cat Food

If you find that your cat doesn’t like wet cat food, have no fear: Target has many, many options for the dry cat food lover! The dry cat food ranges from “Kitten Chow” to “Beyond: Grain Free.” Depending on your cat’s needs and wants, the cat aisle at Target has everything you need! They even sell Purina cat food to promote a healthy urinary tract and food for indoor cats. You won’t be disappointed by your shopping experience at Target, that is for sure!

Cat Litter Mats

Target has several options for cat litter mats. These mats are a fantastic purchase. All you have to do is place the mat under, or in front, of your cat’s litter box. The purpose of these mats is to help keep litter debris off the floor. When your cat’s done using the litter box and jumps out onto the floor with kitty litter on their paws, these mats collect the litter and keep it all in one place. They make less work for you! All you have to do is pick up the mat and dump it back into the box. Easy, right? Depending on the type of mat you want, Target has a nice organized section of the kitty litter tools, all to be found in the same aisle!

Scratch Posts

One of a cat’s favorite thing to do is obviously scratch their claws. However, we don’t want them doing it on our furniture, blinds or anything not meant for scratching. You guessed it: Target has the answer! Target has multiple types scratching posts. Some cat scratchers have carpet on them, some have sisal and some double as tunnels and perches. Your cat will be happy they have their own personal scratch post and you will be happy that your furniture stays in one piece!

Scratch Film

That being said, Target is aware that some cats are still learning to not scratch the furniture. On the cat aisle, you will find scratch protection film. All you have to do with this tape is roll it onto any surface, like the couch or drapes, at your desired length and press it on. The tape acts as an invisible film barrier between your cat’s claws and your precious furniture. Putting a scratch post nearby is your best solution to this scratching problem. Eventually (hopefully) your cat will learn they shouldn’t be scratching the couch!

Pet DeShedder

You love your cat, but you may not love all their excess hair flying around. Well, I’ve got a solution for you. Target sells a Cat DeShedder. Simply brush your cat with it and they remove loose hair from your cat’s coat. This tool is great to have because it prevents hairballs from forming and prevents shedding. It is a win-win situation: your cat won’t have hairballs and you won’t have cat hair around the house!

Cat Toys

Obviously, your furry feline needs toys! It isn’t a cat life without a mouse toy with a bell inside or a robot mouse with a laser inside. Target has all the cat toys you could possibly need. Their selection is huge and fully stocked! The toys are colorful and noisy (if you choose). I am sure my cat, Maxwell, would sneak out fo the house to get to the “toy aisle” at Target if he could 😉
