Chris Pratt Gives The Inside Scoop On His Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Movie Role + Much More

On my recent trip to LA I got to join 24 other bloggers in a room with Chris Pratt, yes the Chris Pratt.  Let me tell you something…I have interviewed a lot of people and I was so impressed with the way he presented himself.  He really is just a genuinely nice guy, living his dream, not to mention with majorly good genes. But, I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. 😉 Anyways, check out this awesome Q&A with Chris Pratt!

Right away, Pratt entered the room in the best way. He was so excited to talk to all of us and it really set a great tone for the entire interview.  As he entered the room he responded to the full room of clapping saying, “what a nice welcome, I need this from everyone. I love it!”  Then it was right into the interview.

How did you feel seeing the film?

“I saw it about a week and a half ago for the first time, and last night was the second time. I was so relieved when I saw it because I knew like the script, the script, that movie is exactly what the script, how the script read. And so, I, when I read the script, I knew it was good. But there’s so much stuff that can happen between reading the script, and then watching the movie, you know? There’s so many moving parts, some of which I’m responsible for. So, I was like, [LAUGHS] please still be good. I was just relieved to see that the movie was as good as the script.”

I agreed with everything he said! Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2  was such a good movie!  Read more about my thoughts in my premiere experience and review post. On top of the action, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 expands on Chris Pratt’s character, Peter Quill’s story and history. The half-human, half-alien leader of the guardians is forced to face his past and come to terms with the truth of his parents.  His father is played by Kurt Russell so of course we had to ask about that!

What was it like working with Kurt Russell?

“Ah man, everyone on my team, everyone who’s been hanging out with him, they’re either just like, “He’s such a great dude.” And, he really is, man. I’ve heard a few people say like, “It really feels like you guys could be father and son.” And we share a lot of the same passions. He’s a really cool guy. He’s a really open book. Definitely know where you stand with him. He tells it like it is. And, I really like that.

And, you know, obviously he’s like this iconic dude, who I’ve known about him for decades before he ever knew I existed. And so, there’s always that strange moment when you meet someone and you’re a big fan, you won’t, you feel like you have to tell him, because otherwise you try to build a friendship and it’s a little inauthentic, you know? I just said, “Listen, I have to get this part out of the way, but I love you so much. Oh, you’re the best. You’re the best. You’ve always been the best.” And he goes, “Yeah, I know. Thanks.” And, all right, let’s get to it, you know?”

He’s a funny guy so we had to know…

Did you get to improv while filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2?

“There are a few jokes that I improv that made it. I think the thing about the thing between my legs [you’ll have to see the movie to find out the scene] had a hand on it. That was improv!

“We’d done that scene a bunch of times and they had to do it again because they needed to get something else. So I knew they already had the line that was written, and that’s my room to play. [They’re] gonna throw this take away anyways, I’m just gonna say whatever I want. That’s what I said [and James] was like, ‘Yeah, yeah it wasn’t that funny.‘ And then he put it in the movie.”

So we’ve heard it before and it is very true, Chris Pratt is a family man.  But, just how does he do it all?

How do you balance work, family and life?

“I think you don’t have to be present to be a presence – [especially] with technology now, Facetime, little things like that. Checking in every day, and nurturing your relationship with your spouse – not making it just about the kids is important. We were just in London, and I hadn’t seen them in a while, but they got to come visit me, and stay with me for a few weeks. [Anna and I] took a weekend trip for ourselves to go to Paris, and left Jack behind. It was good for us to be out there by ourselves. So, I think, prioritize, and make lists, and probably you’re gonna fail some of the time. Do your best.”

He was so honest and real and he didn’t stop there.  He went on to tell us the realistic side of staying shape.

How do you stay in shape?

“Well,  if I’m gonna be fully authentic, I’m pretty careful about when I reveal myself to the public. So I do it in a way to make you think that I’ve kept it off the entire time, but I haven’t. Seriously, like I kinda keep tight, close to what I need to be, but I have to live my life as well. When I do a shirtless scene, or I do a magazine cover, or I do a photo shoot that I know is going to  get a lot of press, I then dial it in so that I can take a good picture. All my eating habits and diet fitness habits are, it’s very shallow of me, they’re very much based around how I’m going to be and put myself out there. Don’t be hard on yourself if people lose weight and they can’t keep it off.

That’s just really natural.  I think the best thing, the best way to think about it is not to have a weight goal. It’s not to say my goal is 225 pounds. That’s not my goal. My goal is six months. It’s like six months of consistency. Go to the gym, or do something every day for six months. See if I can do that. Make the goal, a consistency.Build up a bunch of consistency and make it more of a lifestyle.”

And of course it wouldn’t be a Chris Pratt interview if we didn’t ask what his favorite snack is.  I think we are meant to be life long friends because he responded saying his favorite snack is one of my favorites too – sausage, cheese, and crackers – that sort of thing.  He said he could just live on it.  So the best way to follow that up is, what’s his character’s favorite snack?

What’s Peter Quill’s favorite snack?

“That’s a good question. Peter Quill’s shirt in the movie, if you see that’s his favorite snack, because that’s actually a label from, this little Easter egg, from the first movie, there was some candy on the table and I think I’m (Peter Quill) is eating some of the candy. I don’t know if it ever made it in the movie, but James really loved the label, the art department had gone the lengths of creating this language, and created a label for some candy.

And so, he put that label on the shirt. So, that’s a snack that Peter Quill likes to eat. That’s probably his favorite snack.”
