D23 Expo 2022 Announcements: New Details on Titles From Marvel, Lucasfilm, and More
After receiving quite a few surprise trailers and appearances from upcoming live-action films, The Walt Disney Studios had more announcements to share with fans at D23 Expo. The next showcase of the D23 Expo featured teams from Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, and 20th Century Studios as they announced new titles and behind-the-scenes footage.
Here’s the scoop on announcements highlighting some of the most anticipated titles from D23 Expo!
Lucasfilm
After Lucasfilm was acquired by Walt Disney Studios in 2019, the stunning creativity and storytelling of Star Wars have been a great addition to Disney+ It comes as no surprise that many more titles will make their appearance on the streaming platform in the near future. Fans at the D23 Expo 2022 were also introduced to the president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, who shared the amazing lineup of titles ahead.
Andor
This spy thriller premieres later this month as the fans got to see the final trailer for the 24-episode series. Andor follows Cassian, one of the central characters in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The era in this spy thriller takes place five years before the events of Rogue One. Instead of purely focusing on the iconic Star Wars characters, this series will allow the opportunity for everyday people to be at the forefront.
Willow
The next announcement at the D23 Expo 2022 was the upcoming series, Willow. The fantasy created by George Lucas focuses on a group of heroes going on a dangerous mission where they must face themselves while coming together to save the world. When the new trailer was revealed to fans, it was already decided that Willow is going to take on a new perspective of cinema and storytelling with humor and mystical creatures.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch
Following season 1 of the animated series, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, the second season coming out in early 2023 will continue the storyline, taking place months after the events on Kamino. The Bad Batch continues their journey, trying to figure out the Empire after the fall of the Republic. The characters will come across friends and enemies as they take on new missions.
Stars Wars: Tales of the Jedi
Following the D23 Expo announcements of season 2 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, fans were delighted to hear about a new shorts series. Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi will tell a simple story involving the Jedi from the prequel era. The six-episode shorts features Ahsoka and Count as they go on a path towards their own destinies. The series releases on October 26th on Disney+.
Ahsoka
The character Ahsoka will make her debut in the new live-action series coming to Disney+ in 2023. Ahsoka follows the former Jedi knight as she investigates a threat that could destroy a galaxy. Fans were able to see the first ever images from the upcoming series.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
The next D23 Expo announcements involved another Stars Wars series coming to Disney+. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew centers around four kids who find themselves lost in the galaxy, trying hard to find a way home.
The Mandalorian
Fans at the expo got a sneak peek of season 3 of The Mandalorian through a trailer. In the third season, the Mandalorian and Grogu come together again and continue their journey through the galaxy. Be on the lookout for the season on Disney+ in 2023!
Indiana Jones 5
Indiana Jones 5 is coming out as a fifth installment to the fan-favorite franchise. Fans got to see the first trailer for the movie. Without no specific plot detail reveals, the movie will take place after Crystal Skull.
Marvel Studios
Before announcing new titles for Marvel fans, Kevin Feige provides a review of some of the recent titles from the Multiverse Saga, Phase 4, Phase 5, and Phase 6 like The Kang Dynasty. Marvel Studios continued to surprise fans with announcements at the D23 Expo that continues the MCU storylines.
Ironheart
The first series to be announced by Marvel Studios is Ironheart. The series takes place after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Moreover, the story follows Riri Williams, a genius inventor, who wants to change the world. Riri focuses on building iron suits as technology and magic collide. The new series comes out next year.
Werewolf By Night
Director Michael Giacchino showcases Marvel’s first ever special presentation to fans. Werewolf By Night is the name of two characters who are werewolves. Monster hunters end up finding a relic following the death of their leader. However, the situation is surely dangerous when you come across a dangerous monster.
A series that will flip the stereotypical perspective that all Marvel content leans on action and adventure. Get ready for this classic horror coming to Disney+ on October 7th!
Secret Invasion
Launching on Disney+ in 2023, Secret Invasion is a thrilling series with the new trailer revealed to fans at the D23 Expo. The ninth television series in the MCU will follow a group of shapeshifters named the Skrulls who have entered Earth for years.
Armor Wars
D23 Expo announcements have fired up fans with the introduction to the new series revolving around James Rhodes, the “War Machine.” Based on the popular comic series, Armor Wars, James suffers the consequences when Tony Stark’s tech falls into the wrong hands.
Loki- Season 2
Continuing after the shocking finale, Loki season 2 will release on Disney+ in 2023. The trailer hasn’t been released yet but fans got to see footage from the series at the D23 Expo. Fans can already conclude that the second season is giving creepy vibes with the teaser.
Echo
Echo is the spin-off to the Hawkeye series with Maya Lopez as the central character. She returns to her hometown where she faces her past while reconnecting with her Native American roots as well as her family.
Daredevil: Born Again
This 18-episode series is still in the production phase, but fans were excited to hear the announcements at D23 Expo. Daredevil: Born Again is the sequel to Echo and will make its appearance on Dsiney+ 2024.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
In the second move after Black Panther, Marvel fans at D23 Expo were given the opportunity to see some scenes and highlights of the film. The Wakandans fight to protect their nation from the threats of other world powers. The heroes must come together for the security of their kingdom.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Fans were greeted by the cast of the film that’s set to hit theaters in 2023. The story follows Super Hero partners and Hope’s Parents as they work together to explore the Quantum Realm and an adventure that will push them beyond their limits. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania connects with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.”
Fantastic Four
Set in the MCU, the Fantastic Four reboot is in the making as a part of Phase 4. This film will feature Marvel’s most iconic families.
Captain America: New World Order
Sam Wilson’s journey continues in this brand new film coming in 2024. The details of the movie have yet to be announced.
Thunderbolts
Similar to the Suicide Squad, the Thunderbolts will make their debut in the MCU as the new antihero faction that will surely cause chaos.
The Marvels
Fans were delighted when given the chance to see special scenes from the upcoming movie set to release in the summer of next year. The superhero film will feature Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, and Monica Rambeau. The three girls come together once to find out that they swap places every time they use their powers.
20th Century Studios
Alan Bergman surprised fans at the D23 Expo by announcing the sequel to Avatar. Every fan was invited to see the new footage with 3D glasses.
Avatar: The Way of Water
The highly anticipated film, Avatar: The Way of Water focuses on the Sully family and the struggles they face amidst battles. and tragedies.
