D23 Expo 2022: Disney Parks Panel Reveals Bright Future for Parks, Experiences, and Products
Josh D’ Amaro shared a glimpse into the future for Disney parks and more. Some of the highlights from the Disney Parks Panel at D23 Expo 2022 include Frozen-themed lands and an expansion of the Avengers Campus.
Before announcing some of the future projects for Disney parks, the fans got to experience a magical performance by Jordan Fisher of the classic anthem, “Happily Ever After.” The audience was also ecstatic to witness a performance by the Disney legend, Anika Noni Rose, the voice behind Tiana from The Princess and The Frog.
Here’s the scoop on future projects revealed by Disney Parks Panel at D23 Expo 2022!
Expanding Avengers Campus
Head into the Multiverse with your favorite superheroes at Avengers Campus! Guests at Disney California Adventure park will get to see a third attraction with the powerful villain character, King Thanos. The variant is designed just for Avengers Campus.
Pacific Wharf Reimagined
Near the Avengers Campus at Disneyland, the Disney Parks Panel at D23 Expo also revealed a reimagining of Pacific Wharf with the city, San Fransokyo from the animation film, Big Hero 6. There will also be a place to meet the iconic character Baymax while taking in new places to shop and eat.
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
Have you ever wanted to experience a world like Mickey’s Toontown? Coming in 2023 to Disneyland, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will throw you into a cartoon world with inclusive experiences in Toontown for families.
Pixar Place Hotel
Disney Parks Panel at D23 Expo 2022 is excited to announce the reimagining of Paradise Pier Hotel. The hotel will allow guests to feel like they’re in a Pixar art gallery with new interpretations of classic Pixar characters.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride will build on the story of Princess Tiana, reminding us that dreams can come true. The attraction is set to come out in late 2024 at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort. At D23 Expo, the model of the ride was revealed to fans as a reimagining of Splash Mountain.
World Celebration in Epcot
Epcot is the only Disney park where you will find buildings and food inspired by countries all over the world. In 2023, Epcot is to finish its World Celebration neighborhood after slow progress due to the pandemic.
Journey of Water
Inspired by the popular Disney movie, Moana, guests will be able to feel a connection to the ocean. The Journey of Water is a walk-through attraction in Epcot that will take guests on a beautiful, lush trail while learning about the natural water cycle.
Hatbox Ghost
One of Disney’s favorite attractions, the Haunted Mansion is to bring back the Hatbox Ghost after removing the animatronic shortly after opening the ride in both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom.
Tron/Lightcycle Run
Coming soon to Magic Kingdom, the Tron Lightcycle Run is inspired by the popular Tron franchise. The ride allows guests to experience riding their own light cycle through the Grid. For an idea of what the experience will be like, watch videos of the motorbike rollercoaster at Shanghai Disneyland.
Happily Ever After
The anthem that Disney fans know and love will return with an updated nighttime spectacular light show over Cinderella’s Castle in 2023.
Disney Treasure
A brand new ship will set sail in the Disney Cruise Line starting in 2024. The Disney Treasure ship will inspire guests to explore and bring out their inner adventurer. The three-deck design of the ship draws influences from Asia and Africa. The most exciting feature of the ship is to include a statue of Jasmine, Aladdin, and the Magic Carpet.
Disney Cruise Line
For a limited time, guests living in Australia and New Zealand will have the opportunity to experience a magical vacation onboard cruises that will immerse them into stories from Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and more. Furthermore, Disney Wonder cruises are to set sail to new destinations like Fiji and Samoa.
Meanwhile, the Disney Cruise Line is working to build a beautiful island destination in the Bahamas to immerse guests in a tropical getaway.
Frozen Themed Land
In Hong Kong Disneyland, the World of Frozen will open in the later half of 2023. The land will flawlessly blend Arendelle and the landscape of Lantau Island.
The next park to receive a Frozen-themed land is Disneyland Paris. Revealed by Disney Parks Panel at D23 Expo, it will allow guests to quite literally step inside the snowy setting from the films.
Tangled Ride
One of the most anticipated new additions to Disneyland Paris is the Tangled family attraction that will be next to the Frozen land. The Disney ride is most likely a spinner ride with wooden boats and lanterns.
Pixar: We Belong Together
A new show coming to Walt Disney Studios park will be a part of the 30th anniversary of the Disneyland Paris Resort. Get ready to see your favorite Pixar characters come together on stage!
Zootopia
The Disney Parks Panel revealed at D23 Expo 2022 that Shanghai Disney Resort will be the first to bring Zootopia to life with the central station, police department, and an animatronic of Officer Clawhauser.
Disney Animation Stories
Frozen, Tangled, and Peter Pan will appear at Tokyo Disney Resort as a part of the Fantasy Springs expansion. Fantasy Springs will feature advanced animatronics of iconic Disney characters like Elsa. A new hotel will also be built in the Tokyo DisneySea theme park.
Duffy & Friends
Duffy, Mickey’s favorite teddy bear will receive its own six-episode series on Disney+ next year. The character is a favorite in Disney resorts all throughout Asia for its cute, loveable appearance.
Disney 100 Years of Wonder
In celebration of 100 years of magic, Josh ends the panel with a few announcements regarding Disney park experiences that will include new nighttime spectaculars and parades. “The World of Color- One” and “Wonderous Journeys” are to appear at Disneyland Resort in January of 2023. These nighttime shows will celebrate the storytelling of Walt Disney.
The parade that will return to Disneyland is “Magic Happens” and is set to appear next spring. Get ready to also enjoy a light show at the Epcot World Showcase Lagoon as part of the Disney celebration.
The last surprise reveal is the new statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse at Hong Kong Disneyland. The statues will be located near Cinderella’s Carousel.
