Back in 1987, Dirty Dancing became one of the most iconic movies of our time. From the line “Nobody puts Baby in a corner” to the song “Time of Our Life”, this film has touched the hearts of many generations of people. The tender love affair between Baby and Johnny continues to make young girls swoon (and possibly ask their parents for a trip to the Catskills).

The Big News

Fast forward 33 years later and Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey has announced that she has a new dance movie in the works with Lionsgate. In this project, Grey will star and produce. The film has yet to be titled, however many fans wonder if Grey’s original character, Baby Houseman, will make a reappearance. Apparently, this new movie will be set in the 1990s.

However,

Despite the excitement of this new project, it also leaves many questions. If this is a Dirty Dancing sequel, how will it be the same without Grey’s dashing co-star, Patrick Swayze? Unfortunately, Swayze died in 2009 of cancer. Additionally, Dirty Dancing received a prequel in 2004 titled Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, which gave some insight into the past of Johnny Castle. However, this prequel didn’t do nearly as well, earning only a 23% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Conclusion

Either way, it is nice to see Jennifer Grey back to dancing. In 2010, Grey won Dancing With the Stars, showing off the iconic lift from the film. Also, she recently made an appearance at a Zoom reunion with the cast of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. In the end, fans should get excited about a possible return to Dirty Dancing. Hopefully, it will have the same steamy romance and amazing soundtrack. Are you excited about a possible sequel? Let us know!
