Disney Parks to Retheme “Splash Mountain” After “The Princess and the Frog” Movie

The ride Splash Mountain at Disneyland and DisneyWorld is getting reimagined by Imagineers. Instead of being based on the controversial film Song of the South, it will follow the theme of the Disney animated movie The Princess and the Frog.

A Celebration of Mardi Gras

The ride takes place after the final kiss between Tiana and Naveen. Also, we’ll see the princess and prince and their friend Louis celebrate Mardi Gras. Furthermore, the New Orleans and the Louisiana bayou seen in the film serves as the backdrop for the ride. In addition, it will feature the iconic music from The Princess and The Frog. Be prepared to sing and get soaked as you ride this new version of Splash Mountain.

Inspirational and Inclusive

Disney hopes that this ride will inspire guests, showing a driven and adventurous woman who works hard for everything she has. Undoubtedly, people have wanted more representation and diversity reflected in the rides for a long time. The concept art for the ride reflects these wishes, giving us a ride that seems more relevant than the previous attraction.

Enhancing Parks Through Innovation

Walt Disney always spoke about the importance of innovation as the world changes and evolves. We’re happy that Imagineer’s at Disneyland and DisneyWorld are taking Walt’s advice by creating this Princess and the Frog themed ride. However, the ride is still in development and the parks are not yet open. But we can’t wait for the day where we can get in line for this stunning-looking attraction!

Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., plan to begin a phased reopening in July, pending approval from local and state authorities. Magic Kingdom Park (pictured) and Disney’s Animal Kingdom are planned to reopen on July 11, 2020, followed by EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 15, 2020. (Matt Stroshane, photographer)
