Everything We Know About Cobra Kai Season 5
Fans were left reeling after the shocking season 4 cliffhanger. Of course, we were all left wondering what will happen in season 5 and when will it premiere?
In this blog post, we will discuss everything we know so far about season 5 of Cobra Kai. As well as some popular theories. There will be spoilers for the past seasons ahead!
Here’s the scoop on Cobra Kai season 5!
Release Date
Netflix recently dropped a season 5 date announcement. This promotional video included a first look at the new footage for the season and the release date!
Season 5 of Cobra Kai will premiere on September 9, 2022! Mark your calendars!
What We Know About The Main Plot
Based on the ending of season 4 and the trailer for season 5 we can begin to piece together the main trajectory of season 5.
This season will feature Terry Silver as the main villain. Daniel and Chozen will team up to stop him from gaining control of the Valley.
But with Kreese in jail who will assist Terry Silver in expanding the Cobra Kai dojo?
It is theorized that Mike Barnes will join the cast this season. While nothing is confirmed, some signs seem to be pointing in that direction.
Barnes was a main villain in The Karate Kid 3. Terry Silver brought him in from another dojo to beat Daniel in the all valley competition.
Although Barnes lost the competition, he is still a great fighter. In the season 4 finale, Terry Silver told Kreese that, “he could dig up an old friend or two to help with Cobra Kai while he’s away.” Could this be alluding to Mike Barnes?
Johnny, Robby, and Miguel
The date announcement revealed to the audience that Johnny will be heading to Mexico to bring Miguel, who ran away to track down his father, back home.
Fans were excited to see that Johnny will be taking his son Robby Keene with him. The two started down the long road of repairing their father-son relationship in the season 4 finale.
Despite being father and son, Johnny and Robby have been on opposite sides of the Karate War for four seasons. Although they still have a long way to go in fixing their relationship, at least they hugged it out!
It seems that the two will be getting into trouble though as the promotional video sees them posing as FBI agents. They then proceed to get into a fight with unknown people.
We are excited to see Johnny and Robby finally take their father-son camping trip as they journey to Mexico to bring Miguel back.
However, the trip won’t be smooth sailing as Miguel and Robby have had a rivalry for the entire series. While it seems that this rivalry is over Sam and Tori that is just surface level. Their rivalry really stems from Robby feeling like his father loves Miguel more than him.
In the trailer, Robby says to his father, “how could you take me down to Mexico and not mention that we were coming to get Miguel?”
We certainly hope that Robby and Miguel can make peace this season but they’ve definitely got a lot of issues to work out.
Robby then asks his father if he even has a plan to which he replies “Of course I do, I will ask around even if anyone has seen Miguel.”
Robby shakes his head and asks, “that’s the big plan?”
The two most hot-headed characters in the series heading down to Mexico together with no plan or backup. What could go wrong?
While this storyline is certainly going to be messy, we can’t wait to see how it is going to play out!
Daniel and Chozen
We know that Chozen will be joining the cast in season 5. He will be teaming up with Daniel to stop Terry Silver and to honor the late Mr. Miyagi’s legacy.
Chozen has already made appearances in the show and has taught Daniel invaluable skills and lessons. He is definitely a strong ally to have in any war.
In the trailer when Daniel tells him that they “have to cut the head off the snake” alluding to the Cobra in Cobra Kai, Chozen produces real weapons.
Daniel has to stop him and assure him that “he didn’t mean literally cut their heads off.”
Based on the footage of these two from the trailer, Daniel will be reigning Chozen in for most of the season. We can’t wait to see these talented fighters also be a comedic duo this season!
Sam and Tory
Another major rivalry in the show is Samantha Larusso and Tory Nichols. Their rivalry began in season 2 when Tory began dating Sam’s ex-boyfriend Miguel. It only continued to grow as they found more to dislike about each other.
However, they both seem to be on a similar journey this season.
Sam can be seen fighting a mystery woman in the trailer as she looks around at her past. It is theorized that she could be fighting herself as she reconciles with her past mistakes.
In a similar fashion, Tory began her road to redemption last season as she refused to fight dirty against Sam in the tournament. In the trailer, Tory can be seen staring at her first place trophy with a contemplative look on her face.
Seeing as one of the last scenes of season 4 was Tory seeing Terry pay off the referee it is highly probable that she does not feel that she actually earned the trophy of her own merit.
While we don’t know if these two will make peace with one another, it is very clear that they are going to be making peace with themselves this season.
Cast
In terms of the cast for this season, we know it will include the members of the major rivalries Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) as well as their children Samantha LaRusso (Mary Mouser) and Robby Reene (Tanner Buchanan).
It will also include the rest of the main reoccurring cast Tory Nichols (Peyton List), Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña), Eli/Hawk Moskowitz (Jacob Bertrand), and Demetri (Gianni Decenzo).
Based on the trailer we also know that Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) and Chozen (Yuji Okumoto) will play a major role in this season.
Additionally, we will see appearances from Anthony LaRusso (Griffin Santopietro), Stingray (Paul Walter Hauser), Kenny (Dallas Dupree Young), Piper (Selah Austria, Kyler (Joe Seo), and Moon (Hannah Kepple).
While we did not see him in the trailer it is safe to assume that John Kreese (Martin Kove) will play a big role in this season as well. Seeing as Terry Silver is expanding the Cobra Kai dojo, it is likely that we will get some new characters this season as well.
There you have it! That is everything we know about Cobra Kai season 5 so far! Are you excited about September now?
