Exclusive Interview: Q&A with Basketball Wives LA’s Laura Govan

Laura Govan was on season 5 of VH1’s hit reality series, Basketball Wives LA. She shares four kids with basketball player Gilbert Arenas. Since being on the show, she has been acting, writing her own book, and enjoying motherhood. Check out my interview with the beautiful Laura Govan!

What was your experience like on Basketball Wives LA?

My experience on Basketball Wives was everything that you saw. I was miserable, unhappy, and just had my fourth baby in a place in my life where I didn’t care about what happened with anything except my kids. I just was in a really bad space, and it reflected on the show. But at the time, that’s who I was; miserable and unhappy!

Did you expect all of this to happen when you signed up for the show?

When I signed up for Basketball Wives, I had no idea what was going to happen day to day. I had no idea what to expect as far as reality TV. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. What we were pitched initially for the show is totally not what and how we acted on the show.

Do you have any words for Gilbert?

Yes, I wish him well and I hope and pray we could be the best co-parenting parents ever.

Are you currently seeing anyone now?

I am very much single now, Lol!

How was your experience on Iyanla: Fix My Life?

My experience on Iyanla: Fix My Life was really good and interesting – Iyanla was everything I thought she’d be and more. I appreciated input and I needed it. I needed to get out my feelings of anger and my frustrations. I feel like everybody should have a chance to do a moment of reflection and get things out. It’s so good for your spirit, your soul, your energy and to move forward so I loved it and I would do it again! What’s a day in your life like?

A day in my life is waking up to four babies who are hungry and who need all my attention at one time. Getting myself together before the children wake up is big for me. 6AM is my day start, while they usually wake up at about 8 o’clock in the morning. By then I’ve had breakfast made, I’ve showered and I’m dressed and ready to go for the day. Usually that’s how it works. I work out after I’ve dropped them off at school and then I go about my day. Whatever their needs are I accomplish first, and then I take care of the things that I need to do. I then pick them up and make them dinner, which I do every single day. I cook for them and they only get fast food once a week which is on Fridays. That’s typically a good day for Laura, Lol.

If I have to work or go to an event, I usually do everything after they go to sleep. By the time they go to bed at night, which is about 7:45 to 8 o’clock,  I’m out of the door usually by like 9:00-9:15.

How are you enjoying motherhood?

Motherhood comes easy for me. I raised my little brother and sister since I was about 13 years old. For me, having four kids is easy. I feel like God put me on the planet to be a mother. That’s my purpose in life first and foremost and I love it. I actually like my kids and love my kids to death. I want more children so we’ll see what happens!

What can we expect from you in the future?

You can expect me to be back on TV! I just started some acting classes, which I really enjoy. I like reality TV and I think that it gives you a different view of someone’s life. I know reality TV can be scripted, but for the most part when I do reality TV I try to give you the real me, I try to live a real life. I try to give fans who watch the true moment, and what’s real for me. So keep en eye out for more from me.

I also have a book coming out called “Don’t Get Mad, Get Sexy!” You can purchase it at the end of the year on my accessories site: Shop in Real Life.com. I will also be making an appearance on Million Dollar Matchmaker premiering in August, so be sure to check it out!

Do you have a final message you would like to share with your fans?

For my fans: I thank you so much for your support and riding with me along this journey. I am so grateful for you. TV has given me a platform to showcase what it’s like being a single mom, having a business, being an entrepreneur and even becoming an author. It’s  you the fans I appreciate and love.
